Ok that was our last big convention this year. Now it is onto other things like Halloween decorations and school stuff.
I did have fun. I met some new people and caught up with a lot of old friends. The convention was huge and, because of the construction in the Javits, it could be very hard to move around. I really don’t like crowds but I deal with them when I have to. At the bottleneck points, it was very hard to deal with people. This should be better next year when the construction on the center is done.
Convention are fun but they are also lots of work for us. What kind of work depends on the convention. But there is always the packing, the travel, the convention, the travel and then the unpacking to be done even for the local ones.
Also if you look tired or out of sorts, that can get up on the net pretty quickly esp. with all the smart phones with cameras and video. Anything you say within earshot of anyone else is fair game for a tweet these days so you have to watch what you say and who you say it in front of. This can be even harder when you are trying to have a conversation with someone and there are fans hovering just at the edges of the conversation.
But over all my convention experience is a positive one. And I am grateful that I get to go to them.

Home today. Convention much fun yesterday. Saw a lot of friends and caught up on a lot of news.
Today it’s just me and Caroline as Ariel has taken her Room mate to New York Comic Con for her first convention.
More when I am feeling awake rather than barely awake.
I am grateful for yesterday going pretty much as planned.

This weekend is New York Comic Con. Our current plan is that if you want to see me it has to be Saturday. Peter’s table is E9 in Artists Alley but I’ll also be moving around. I might be there Sunday but it is going to be a long shot at best.
I will be bringing a few dolls and dragons to sell at Peter’s table. So if you want to see them up close, that’s where they will be.
In anticipation of the weekend, I have been cleaning up the living room. Right now I have about a 1/3 done but I am moving into the more complicated areas to clean. And I have to go back and pick up the surfaces that I had clean the other day. So I guess I am going to go over the old before starting with the new. I really think that is why I don’t like cleaning, because what I do doesn’t last very long so what’s the point? (It’s a rhetorical question, I know what the point is.)
Fig is doing well. She is growing fast. She is longer now then when we found her a week ago. Hard to believe that this little fur ball has been here a week. And in that time has turned our lives so upside down. She makes up for it with the cute. She has a series of tests next week so we know she is healthy and can be introduced to the cat population at large.
Peter is working on a number of projects so he has been hunkering down in his office and typing like a mad man trying to get as much done as he can because this weekend is going to be crap for writing but he anticipated this.
So hi-ho hi-ho, it’s off to cleaning I go.
I am grateful that Fig is growing.

There is a group online called The Trevor Project and considering the rash of teen suicides that have been in the news, this group is trying to get their message out to the teen youth of America. This group is aimed at the LGBTQ youth but they will help anyone that needs someone to listen to them without judgment. Recently they have produced a number of videos with various people, some famous and some not, talking about that it will get better. Tim Gunn even produced a video for them that revealed some rather personal things about him. The message is that, “Yes, we know that it seems like these feelings will last forever and that there is no way out. Just know that it will get better.”
I have talked before about my depression that I suffered from off and on for years. I don’t think I have said that at one point I tried to off myself. I didn’t see it getting any better so I tried to get out of the game. I didn’t succeed and through the help of friends and family, I made it through that dark time and came out on the other side a better and stronger person.
And I want to say to all of you, It Does Get Better. I could never imagine the life I have now back then. If I had succeeded back then, I wouldn’t have done most of the fun things I have done in my life. I wouldn’t have the good friends I have now. Caroline wouldn’t exist. Peter would never have met me. I thought my life was over when it was only beginning.
Teen and young adult suicide is sad for so many reasons including the fact that these young lives were cut off before they really had a chance to live and be the people they would become.
So it will get better. I honestly know it doesn’t seem so right now, but it does. Take heart in the fact that this person on the Internet is cheering you on and in your corner.
I am so very grateful that I didn’t succeed.

Although the leaves haven’t turned, the lawn is littered with foliage that has been stripped from the trees by force of wind. Today promises to be windy with some rain mixed in.
I took Caroline to see The Legend of the Guardians : The Owls of Ga’Hoole. She enjoyed it although I had to explain a plot point or two after the film which is not a great sign with a children’s movie. We saw it in 3-D and there were some nice effects that they seem to toss in for the look. The problem is that after How to train your dragon which had such lovely flying sequences, this pales a little in comparison. It is not a bad film by any stretch. I think it would have done better if it had come out before HTTYD. I enjoyed it as well. It is done by the group that did Happy Feet so the realism of the owls is really good. It looks nice, I just had some problems with the script. I also think it would work probably just as well in 2-D really.
I understand why the movies, especially the ones for children, are pushing to get it out in 3-D, but not all films need 3-D to be effective. And there are a number of films still coming out that have been forced into the 3-D and you can tell it.
Today back to the conquest of Ariel’s room. Considering how clean I had it at the beginning of the summer, I am a little amazed at how far it devolved. So I plan to pop Adventure of Baron Muchausen into the DVD player and have a go at cleaning everything up. This has to be done by the end of business today so I can get going on the rest of the house. Plus we need to get stuff together for New York Comic Com.
Busy, busy, busy but it beats the alternative by a long shot.
I am grateful when a plan comes together.
