Happiness is a Warm Purring Kitten

Posted By on October 3, 2010

Figaro continues to work out her new world. Caroline spent most of the day with her in the kitchen. Caroline read to the kitten. They watched a movie together (portable DVD players are amazing). They played together. Figaro and Caroline had a very good day together.

Me, I finished the laundry to which there was much rejoicing. Today is all about Ariel’s room and getting that knocked back into shape.

It is nice to have a quiet weekend without any obligations to be anywhere we don’t want to be. I am going to take Caroline to see the Guardians of Ga’Hoole or whatever they are calling it this week. The weather looks dicey to do anything outside today.

Peter is getting his schedule together for New York Comic Con. He is a busy lad all three days. We’re still a bit up in the air as to what we are going to do. I know Ariel is going to be there. Whether Caroline and I make it is still undecided.

I am working out what I am going to do for the lawn this year. I have a wacky idea but don’t know if I have the time to do it. I need to cogitate for a bit on that one.

I am a couple of days behind on the National Craft Month challenge but I think I am going to give it a go as of today. Hard to believe that Novel Writing is around the corner…or did I miss it this year?

I am hoping that today will be a productive one.

I am grateful for light bulbs that work.

Figaro is Settling In

Posted By on October 2, 2010

Yesterday we let Figaro out into the kitchen with supervision. She is settling into being here. Yesterday morning there was a lot of hiding by the evening she was under foot. Caroline was very patient with Fig. She sat down in the middle of the kitchen and let Fig come to her. By the end of the afternoon, Caroline was reading a book and Fig was curled up beside her sound asleep.

I spent the day doing laundry and super cleaning the kitchen since we seem to have some rather large ants showing up. This allowed Fig to spend time out of the bathroom we have put her in for now. Today I have more laundry to do and I plan to get Ariel’s room in better shape than she left it. Then onto the living room and recover it from the past couple of months.

We have a cunning plan that should allow us to at least be there for Saturday and maybe Sunday for New York Comic Con. More when I know that we have everything in place.

The other cats know something is up. They can hear her mewing. But they aren’t getting too worked up. I am trying to make sure that they get pets too so they don’t feel left out. Treat is fine as long as we pay attention to him when we are in the basement. This includes getting underfoot when I bring the laundry down. I think one good accidental tail stomp and he’ll get out of the way.

How many drugs are touted as the solution to X only to become the hay for the ambulance chasers in less than 5 years? Also some of the side effects of these drugs seem worse than the thing that they are solving? One thing that is being learned is that drugs effect on people is very different. Aspirin works for most of my aches and pains. If it doesn’t then I use Advil, which works for most of the rest of it. For allergies I used Benadryl because it works and continues to work when I need it. For colds I get real Sudafed which turns me into the humming bird but it works. I know there are new medication that have done wonderful things for people but I feel like everyone is hopping from one medication to another way too fast.

Off to fold lots of laundry and continue cleaning our dirty laundry. Hope y’all have a nice day.

I am grateful that Caroline and Figaro are bonding so well. I am proud that she is being very patient and letting Fig come to her rather than chasing the kitten around.

Why I may not be at New York Comic Con this year…

Meet Figaro aka Fig. She is a domestic short hair cat I found up a tree in front of our property. She is about 6 weeks old so we can’t leave her alone for the weekend like we can for the boys.

We are looking at boarding her but Caroline and I might just stay home with her since she is just getting use to us and we to her.

How did we end up with her? Balance in the Universe?

No, what happened is that when I was walking (running) Caroline to the bus stop, I heard a tiny mew. I checked the tree I thought it came out of and didn’t hear it anymore. So I stocked it up to imagination. About 4 hours later, after one of those sideways rain storms we had yesterday, two ladies came to our door and said, “You have a kitten up your tree.” We got a ladder and she met up half way so I had a very soaked little kitten huddled in my shirt for warmth.

I had Peter go get a cat carrier and we put her into it along with a towel and called the vet. We set up an appointment to have her seen (for some reason we kept called her a “her” even though we didn’t know her gender). In the mean time we were given instruction to give her some wet food which she devoured quickly. She spent most of the rest of the afternoon hidden in the back of the carrier.

Caroline thinks we are the best parents ever for finding her a new kitten. She loves it a lot.

We had to get the fleas off her coat which took a bit but she seems flea free this morning. We are going to check her again this afternoon to make sure we got them all.

Figaro is adjusting to her new less wet life. This morning there were lots of purrs and pets and nuzzles.

So we are back up to being a 5 cat house which is as far as we will go in cat population.

I am grateful that we found her before last night’s storms or this might be a much sadder entry.

Stormy Weather

We are under a number of warnings and watches today. The weather is going to be on the rather damp side. In fact as I type this, it is raining sideways. I have one errand which must be done today but the rest of the day will be safely inside. Even when the rain stops, the wind will not.

For you Nintendo players, there is a new Professor Layton for the DS. I think the Professor Layton series is my favorite games for my DS. They have such a great look and such wonderful progressively hard puzzles. I saw an ad for it this morning.

We do need the rain. I am not doubting that. It has been a rather dry summer this year. Then there are the temperatures in LA. Peter was out there when it hit 113. Weather is rather wacky right now.

New York Comic Con is next on the docket. I am of two minds about it. It can be a fun convention and it can be a pain as well. I’m hoping for fun and going to have a good time and see my friends along with making some new ones. Should I bring some dolls/puppets with me?

Scott Porter showed up on “The Good Wife” which we cheered about. Scott is a really good actor and a fine young man. We wish his career well. Caroline still calls him Rex Racer. We haven’t seen Dexter yet. Maybe after lunch.

I really could have called this a Random Thoughts before the Coffee Kicks in but I had a cup before writing it.

OK need to get the day started. Will post this when I have Internet.

I am grateful for dry fuzzy cat purrs on wet days.

RTBTCKI (Yes I do have Jet Lag Doggonit Edition)

You would think that only an hour difference wouldn’t make that much of a difference but this morning my head feels like it is full of the stuffing I put in my hand puppets. Caroline couldn’t sleep and finally stopped popping out of bed about 10:30 but I could hear her singing to the cat at 11:00. So this morning she did get up and get dressed in time without complaint but her eyes have very dark circles around them.

I am behind on football. What I did see was riddled with penalties. More games were lost this week because of penalties than anything else. Teams didn’t win more than teams lost because of what they did on the field. I did catch the end of the Bears vs. the Packers game. The Packets might have had it if the defense hadn’t amassed those penalties. Hardest one had to be the interception that was given back to the Bears because of helmet to helmet contact. Giants did the same doggone thing giving the game over on penalties. I have a feeling there is going to be a whole lot of shouting going on in locker rooms this week.

I have come to the conclusion that Dr. Who must hire the nicest sort of people. I have yet to meet someone be it writer, actor or even dresser who isn’t just delightful to talk to. I have heard tale of some raging egos over the years but not in my encounters including some of the supposed Egos that walk on legs. Maybe I have been lucky but I do enjoy my time with them.

Sophie Aldred is going to be at Armageddon Expo this year doing the same shows I did with Peter a year ago. Y’all are in for a real treat. She is such a lovely person.

It is hard to believe that it is almost a year since we went off on our adventure to the Southern Hemisphere. A lot has happened since then but I still get a warm glow thinking about it in my heart.

Harlan did finish the two stories he started on Friday by the end of his last talk on Sunday. Sometimes it can take him a while to get around but eventually he does finish them. It was nice seeing Harlan and Susan. It was also nice to see Brit Pack and the Ellison Nine (of which I think we had 7 out of the 9) and other people I have gotten to know through the years because of Harlan and Susan. There are in jokes in the group for those of us who were there when it happened. “Guava Paste is People” comes to mind. And there is a certain comradely that comes from being pulled into the Ellison orbit.

Next on the docket is the New York Comic Con. Peter will be there all three days. Caroline and I will be there only Saturday and Sunday. Then I think we have about a month or more before we are off somewhere else. Which will be nice. I swear we have been on the go since last spring. As much as I enjoy travel, I need a little time at home with Peter home at the same time.

Today I am keeping a little loose because I am not quite sure what I am up for. My elbow popped during bowling last night and it is feeling tender this morning. I haven’t tried pick anything up heaver than my coffee cup this morning. So I am going to see what I can get it to do.

Maybe I’ll sit down and read a book. I have two that I took out of the library and I haven’t cracked either. Also the used bookstore in Madison (Frugal Muse) yielded some fun books that we bought. Caroline got 10 books for what we would pay for about 3 paperbacks for her. She has read through half of them already. I love that reading is just a part of her like breathing. Reading is just something that you do because it’s fun. I think we did well on that. Now I have to convince her that Math is also fun and we’ll be in good shape. I do know that she is enjoying it more these days.

So that’s about where my head is at this morning. I am surprised that I was able to get that much out of my brain.

Ya’ll have a good un’ ya hear.

I am grateful for connecting flights that connect correctly.
