No Strings Attached

Since there has been some interest in my idea for a crafty entry once a week so I thought I would give it a try.

But I would like to know what you the reader would be interested in my talking about.

I figured I would talk about current projects I am working.

I thought I might do some how to or short cuts I have learned for various things.

I thought that I would put up pictures of things I am currently working on.

I could talk about how I go about the process of building something.

I could talk about past projects.

I could do in progress pictures.

Current Projects
(or what I want to get done this week)

1. The puppet bodies for the school puppet production of the tales of Anansi.
This will be 8 bodies total and I need to see what scraps of kente cloth I have so the kids can make costumes for their puppets. I have a standard hand-puppet pattern I use with a few tweeks for smaller hands.

2. The Beginnings of the costumes for Farpoint. I have done most of my visual research. Now I need to find the right colors of cloth and make sure I have the right stuff for the accessories.

3. Do 10 cloth postcards and send them out to the postcard swap I joined. I am still doing some research as to how to make postcards out of cloth. I figure at 10 a week, I’ll be able to get this project done before Farpoint.

4. Plot out the steampunk critters I want to do next and cogitate on the one human one I need to do without a stand.

So those are my goals to have done by next Tuesday.

And again I am looking for input from y’all.

It is 3 degrees outside with a wind chill factor that brings it even lower. Not a good day to be outside at all. Most of my day will be spent indoors but I do have to go between buildings which I hope to do quickly.

It’s the Steelers vs. the Packers. The Jets put up a better fight in the second half and if they had gotten that touchdown rather than a touchback, then they might have gone into overtime. I have a feeling this is going to be debated for a long time. However the Jets did get as far as they did last year which didn’t look doable about 4 weeks ago.

There is an interesting article about independent booksellers in the New York Times today and the lengths they have to go to stay in business. With the fate of Borders in question, there is some fear that the independent bookstore is going the way of a dodo.

Jack Lalanne passed away. He is the first fitness guru that believed that all people could be fit and healthy and took his message to the people.

Off to take Caroline to school so she doesn’t freeze at the bus stop.

I am grateful for things to keep us warm.

Fig’s favorite place in the whole wide world is to sit on my chest with her head next to my heart. This makes it hard to type and do anything on the computer because I have a cat in my face. We manage to negotiate space so I can type and she can purr without typing for me but it takes some time to get her to settle down.

I think that the Jets and the Packers are going to the Super Bowl which can be renamed the Farve Bowl since Brett was the QB for both teams. That’s probably the only reason I want that match up. Also with the pending labor strike, I have a feeling this is the last professional football we are going to see for a while.

Baseball is around the corner. I hear more about trades and players either coming back or retiring which reminds us the Spring is not too far away.

We are supposes to get more snow or rain this week. I think we are up to a storm a week by this point. The weather pundits aren’t quite sure what we are going to get hit with but they are betting we are getting some form of precipitation. I am going to predict rain this go round.

A lot of thinking was done yesterday but not much else. Does anyone have a recommendation for an app for the iPhone that will let you organize projects and break them down into lists while being able to put goal dates on a calendar? I have looked at a number of them in the app store but I find that the snazzy pictures sometimes don’t match the actually usage of the app.

I just figured out that I have been entering costumes at Shoreleave and Farpoint for about 10 years now. Wow, that’s a lot of costumes.

I am declaring today a regroup day to step back and regroup before embarking on the next project. I think I may do some cleaning and organizing today to get my head clear. I don’t know why cleaning seems to help my brain sort things out.

I am grateful for that which helps my brain to be clear.

I wrote out all the various projects I have committed to for the first half of the year. And there were a few including one I had forgotten about. Nothing is due yet so I have about a month to get a number of these done.

I have the conventions we are going to scattered among these other commitments. So I have a number of days that I will be unable to do anything.

Some of these can serve double duty for more than one project but there are others that are probably going to take longer than I think they will. March is looking pretty crowded although February has its own challenges.

Next thing is to break down what I think I am going to do for each project. I include the costumes since they have to be in the mix.

So today I am going to sort out what I need to complete various projects and go from there.

I am grateful for discovering something else I was suppose to do way before I have to do it.

If we got these sorts of snowstorms every time, it would not be a problem. There is enough that we pulled out the snow-blower and Peter will take care of everything in about 20 minutes. Last snowstorm was too deep and we had to shovel because the snow blower just wasn’t going to be able to cut it.

So this is more pretty than dangerous. Caroline went off to school on the bus. The roads are in fair condition so getting places is not too much of a problem if you use your common sense.

I am working out my plan for the next couple of weeks. I want to see what I think I can get done and what I can really get done.

Some interesting things that I will probably be able to talk about this time next year are in the air. Nothing solid but some nice possibilities that would really be good for the Clan David. A writer with something to write and get paid for is a good thing in our books.

I am thinking about making one day a week of this blog about the creative side of my life. Any interest?

I am grateful for things that make snow removal easier.
