Peter was a dear and let me sleep in while he got up with Caroline at quarter to eight so I didn’t really awake until quarter to ten. I had some weird dreams between those two waking points. In one I am trying to convince a tiger that Caroline was rehabbing in the house to not eat Figaro. The tiger was practically blind so they were trying to get her to be able to take care of herself by smell. They had some genetic concoction that Caroline was using to help the tiger. The other I was back in my theater of the brain up on the cat walk trying to figure out how to strike the lighting equipment without disturbing the robots that were in a bad mood. That’s my brain trying to sort things out.
Yes, we have the prediction of possible snow or at least a wintery mix from Tuesday into Wednesday. What is it about recycling day (Wednesday) that it seems to snow every week? I figure I’ll keep to my regular schedule until the snow makes it impossible or the ice or maybe nothing will happen. Either way we still have big fracking snow-drifts all over the property and there was a warning to take the snow off of any flat roofs you have because the weight is starting to cave roofs in just because of weight.
Sports, I am impressed that most of the pundits are picking the Packers which makes me think that the Steelers are going to win. Basketball is not holding my interest. Although the games have been closer and there have been a lot of buzzer beaters from half court, it just doesn’t hold my focus. I am looking forward to Pitcher and Catchers reporting because that means that Spring is around the corner.
Crafts, well I got all the bodies done for the elementary school. I think fabric postcards and costumes are next so they will be done and then I am only looking at what I want to put into the Art Show to make. I also have agreed to do a puppetmaking workshop at Farpoint for the children. I am going through some of my books to find a really good puppet for them to make.
I am grateful for everything I get done this next week.

When you haven’t really seen the sun much in over a week, it is amazing how much seeing it can make you feel better. The cats are happy because they can stretch out in a sunbeam and sleep. I am happy because, even with the temperature in the 20s, the sun will help some of the snow melt. It has already done a great job on the snow we got last night which I would call a dusting at best.
Yesterday I finally got out of the house and to my local fabric store for some things I have needed for projects for a while. It was nice to chat with the ladies there and catch up on news and hear other tales of the snow. They wanted to know what I was up to and I promised pictures once I get some stuff done. They are very interested to see how the postcards turn out.
Today is all about the sewing machine and me. I need to clear off the table that I do my layouts on and get some stuff ready to sew. I have an idea of how I am going to do all this but I need to spread the fabric out and plan what I am going to do with it.
I am grateful that we only got a dusting and, due to the sun, don’t have to deal with it at all.

25 years ago I was home and awake in the morning since I had rehearsal in the evening. Since I was up and around I decided to watch the launch of the Space Shuttle since the first civilian was going up in space. I put on CNN and sat back to watch.
It was pretty much a normal launch at the beginning. We heard the astronauts and Mission Control talking to each other like normal. We watched it go up and the camera changedThe count continued from Mission Control. We heard, “Go at throttle up.” And the reply, “Roger, go at throttle up.” Then something didn’t look right to me. There was a plume coming out of the cloud at an odd angle. There was a pause from Mission Control that went on a bit. Then we heard, “Major Malfunction. We have no downlink.” We waited while the pause seemed to stretch into hours where it was merely a minute or so and then we heard “We have a report from the Flight Dynamics Officer that the vehicle has exploded.”
My stomach sank to my knees. I stayed glued to the television until I had to go to rehearsal. There was a pall at rehearsal as the nation mourned the loss of all on board.
There was plenty of discussion at the time as to what happened. As the facts came out we discovered that it was a fault in the O-rings in the rockets. It was an accident waiting to happen but it didn’t until the temperature fell below a certain point for a certain length of time. There was a lot of second guessing. But we picked ourselves up and continued to use the Space Shuttle.
Now the Space Shuttle is being decommissioned with no real replacement in place. We don’t seem to be shooting for the stars anymore or at least not with people involved which, I find sad. Our space program is slowly being dismantled which is a crying shame and I think is disrespect for those who did lose their lives for it. But that is another rant.
Today I remember that day and pray for those who lost their lives and their family and friends who have to live with their absence every day. We, as a nation, were never quite the same after the events of 25 years ago. We lost some of our innocence with that cloud in the sky.
I am grateful that I was home and did see these events unfold.

18 inches according to my yardstick. Caroline’s school was cancelled as was most of the county since there was an emergency order put out that unless you HAD to be on the road, get off and stay off so that the plows can try to do something about it. I explained to Caroline that this snow day takes a day out of her other days off from school. I am concerned that we are going to start cutting into spring break shortly. I know they lost a day off of Memorial Day weekend.
Happy Birthday to Mr. Charles Dodgson writer of Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass among other things. It is amazing how well that piece of literature has lasted and the number of interpretations of the stories we have seen. Personally I think I am going to dig out the Muppet Show version with Brook Shields although we do have the Kate and Richard Burton version with a very young Nathan Lane.
Fig is doing very well and we think we might have found the rest of her family. There is a pack of cats with the same coloring at the local Catholic Church which is about a block and a half from us. They have some younger cats in the group that are about the size of Fig. She is growing by leaps and bounds and getting in trouble for some of her leaps and bounds. Pretty typical kitten except for this weird burbling sound she makes that I have never heard another cat make.
I plan to do some sewing today. It is a good day for it. I just hope I have the right color thread for the two projects I want to do today.
I saw Faceoff last night. Wow, a reality TV series that is so in my bailiwick and one of the contestants has been at DragonCon doing panels on makeup so I am in for the run or until Sam gets eliminated. The first challenge was an interesting one and showed the strengths and weaknesses of each contestant. You could see who could think outside the box and get it to work and who couldn’t. The judging panel is a pretty impressive one too. If you have any interest in SFX make-up or SFX in general, check it out.
Trying to think of what else is going through my head while the kitten perches on my shoulder watching what I am doing.
Packers win the Superbowl. That’s my guess.
I am grateful for things that make snow removal easier.

We have shoveled about 4 inches off the walks, steps, and driveway.
Nothing quite went the way I planned it when I went to bed. The only thing that went like clockwork was getting the paper recycling out to the curb, after missing the last two pickups so we had quite a bit, which was picked up by the local boys before they got taken off of this and put onto plow duty.
Other than that, I have had to change what I was planning on doing a lot. I went to the pet store and got cat food which was running low and then to the grocery store to get human food which I was going to do anyway today but ended up doing it a lot earlier than I had planned on. Gym went out the window due to road conditions but we ended up shoveling a lot of snow to make up for it. Now we are playing sit and wait to see if Peter has a bowling league tonight or if they are going to call it because of the storm that will be hitting about the time that they are leaving.
And tomorrow is in flux as well since we have no idea what storm #2 is going to bring or not bring. They have two scenarios depending on a cold front. So Caroline might have school or it might be cancelled. We could get another 4 or 12 inches depending on which way the fronts move.
So that’s where things stand. Score one for the Lords of Chaos.
We are ready to deal with whatever which is probably the best way to do it.
I am grateful that Peter and I got to deal with the snow before the sleet hit on top of it.
