That phrase uses to mean the Boy Scout Motto to me. Sean was a Boy Scout and did a lot of camping with his fellow scouts and friends. They loved finding ways of making the wilderness less wild. I think if he went now he would bring his own generator to make it even easier.
Now the first thing that pops into my head is Scar from the Lion King singing along with the Hyenas. The musical version not the film version.
We have another possible snowfall heading into the area tonight. It will probably be between 2 and 6 inches but I am betting less because we are prepared for it. We have all the materials needed to combat a storm and the after effects. The only problem is that this might put a spanner in our plans for the weekend so we are going to play that ancient game of wait and see.
I swear we are having more snow that usual this year. Peter pointed out that this goes in cycles and we were due for a snowy winter. I am hoping that this doesn’t affect our going to Farpoint. SnowCon was 9 years ago. Either way I am going to get ready for it.
I am grateful for being prepared before we knew we had to be prepared again.

Yeah it is about a month away but this is the time that I start getting ready for the convention. I have new dolls I want to make. Caroline and Ariel have figured out what they want to do for the Masquerade. We almost have the skits sorted out.
This year I am going to try not to have the run up to the convention to be as insane as it has been in other years. One thing I have going for me is that we figured out the costumes now rather than two weeks before the show.
I like Farpoint. It is one of our regular conventions and it feels very homey. This will be Caroline’s 9th Farpoint. It was her first convention when she was a little over 3 months old. She knows the hotel. She knows the people. I don’t have to worry about her like I didn’t have to worry about Ariel when she was 8 years old and running around with the other kids her age and a little older. We don’t give her free rein but it isn’t like one of the larger conventions that we go to on occasion like New York Comic Con.
So things are ruminating through my brain pan and soon I will start to make the items I want and need to make for the convention. Along with all the stuff that I usually have to do to keep the house in decent shape and the family healthy and happy.
I am grateful for conventions that feel like home.

We got some snow and then some sleet and now it is a cold rain covering the entire area with about a half inch of wet slushy water on the exposed surfaces. Streets are passable but it is a perfect example of a defensive driving day. I feel sorry for the kids who are taking their road test today.
Yesterday was a low key day. We did various things we needed to do. Caroline had a nice day playing inside. Peter and I got a path to the garage shovel out as well as the storm drains which we really need today.
Today is looking like a good indoor day.
Does anyone have any suggestions about Etsy? Or more how to make it work for you? I am thinking about posting my first pieces on it and want to know what I should know before doing that.
I think today is going to be an art day.
I am grateful for safe travel for anyone out there today.

There is a chance that if Dr. King has not been assassinated, he would be alive today. It would depend on his health but 82 is not that old these days. I wonder what he would have thought of the country today or of the world today?
I grew up in Atlanta where Dr. King’s name is engrained in the town’s history. I have driven past the Ebenezer Baptist Church many a time. We have streets name after him. Dr. King’s legacy is talked about in schools.
I asked Caroline what she knew of Dr. King. She said that Dr. King wanted all people to be equal and free. That we aren’t that different from one and other. When I asked her what she meant by that. She said that she was the only kid in her class with brown hair. All the other kids have black hair or red hear or blond hair. I know her classmates and I thought through it and she is right. She said that even though she had brown hair, she wasn’t different than her friend Jennifer who has hair as long as Caroline’s but it is black.
The weather is kind of iffy. It might snow or it may just rain. Either way I need to finished clearing off the storm drains to let the run off to…well….run off.
I was 50/50 in my picks for the NFL this week. I had the Falcons, Bears, Ravens and Jets. I got the Bears and Jets right. Packers and the Steelers played really good games so now it is Jets vs. Steelers and Packers vs. Bears. I’ll say Jets vs. Packers in the Super Bowl. Although I won’t be surprised if it is Bears vs. Steelers and I won’t be as interested.
So some stuff to be done today and more stuff tomorrow. Seems a regular week. Ariel is back at college. And things are pretty much back to normal. I am working out Farpoint and the like for the year now. I have two other projects that I have agreed to do and I really need to start writing again.
I hope that y’all have a good Martin Luther King Jr. Day. He was a great man and a great orator. I think he would be pretty pleased with how far we have come in such a short time but I think he would still think we have a ways to go.
I am grateful that Dr. King’s words were a part of my growing up in Atlanta.

Yesterday we went to see the Discover Channel’s King Tutankhamen exhibit. When Tut mania first hit the US, I didn’t see the exhibit but had a number of friends who did and either enjoyed it or were rather creeped out by it. I enjoyed Egyptology and the like but was a little too young to travel to the exhibit on my own.
Caroline has an interest in all thing Egypt due to various things that have crossed her path including the idea of the Mummy’s Curse as done in Phineas and Ferb. Ariel was interested as well. So we went in for a family trip to see the exhibit since Ariel is off to college today.
I have been through a lot of exhibits in my lifetime. I have built and designed exhibits for museums. I give them major points for the layout which allowed a large number of people to see the artifacts without feeling crowded and having things set up so you could look at the back of the artifact as well as the front. Also they had the cards to each piece in front of the artifact and above it so you could read it from just about any angle. They let people in at a steady rate but did so in groups that didn’t overwhelm the space.
As for the artifacts themselves, well it wasn’t as many as the original but there were very choice pieces to be views. And they took it from both the historical point of view and the archeological point of view so you had two threads winding through the exhibit. I found the religious aspect very interesting as Tutankhamen tried to undo what his father did which caused great civil unrest.
Other fun things is that they teach you how to find Tutankhamen’s cartouche rather early so Caroline and I went through the rest of the exhibit trying to find it on his stuff. Sort of an Egyptian version of the Hidden Mickey game. And it was there more times than not.
I don’t know if this was the last stop on the tour but if it is swinging through your town, it is worth a look.
I am grateful that we took the time to do this. Caroline found it fascinating until we got to the body of the mummy and then she got creeped out.
