This weekend we are in Louisville Kentucky for ConGlomeration. The folks running the convention throw a might fine convention. Caroline even has her own track KidCon within the convention and has been fun doing that.
We arrived Thursday to make sure we would be here for Friday. Ariel is home with the cats and the Doctor Who DVDs which she is marathoning with her friend Meg. Thursday we went to this restaurant which was really interesting to look at, had good food, and was very child friendly called
Yesterday we went to where they make most of the Major League Bats and they were making bats for Mothers Day so there were a lot of pink bats hanging in the drying area. If you are in Louisville and you have a love of baseball, I highly recommend the Louisville Slugger Baseball Bat museum and factory tour. We had a great time and Peter got to hold a game bat that was used by Mickey Mantle. Caroline did quite well in the batting cage with the slow pitch softballs. Peter tried the same bad David Wright uses on some baseballs and didn’t do too badly. Wright uses a pretty heavy bat. I got lots of photos and enjoyed seeing all the baseball history that was around us. We then had a nice lunch at a local pizza joint that was very good.
The afternoon saw the start of the convention. Caroline gravitated to KidCon and had a blast. Dee, who is running KidCon, has done a great job with the track and Caroline enjoyed making some crafts and playing games. She is looking forward to going there again today. Peter did a couple of panels and signed a lot of books. He has a number of things he is doing today. I get to go to panels and wander the convention which is something I haven’t done in ages. The Art Show was still being set up when I went through so I really want to see it today and a couple of panels that have my interest.
I don’t think we will be leaving the Hotel. The weather outside is a rather consistent downpour with claps of thunder and lighting. We can also hear the jets taking off from the airport as well so we have to sort that out from the thunder.
I am grateful that we came down here to ConGlomeration.

In Doctor Who fandom you get debates about this and that but just about everyone agrees that one of the most popular companions was Sarah Jane Smith. Sarah Jane was a creation of the 70s all the way. She was a reporter who would do anything for a story and she was good at her job. She was also the companion who didn’t scream for the Doctor every time she was in danger. A lot of times she would try to work it out for herself and she even saved the Doctor on occasion.
According to the BBC Ms. Elizabeth Sladen passed away after a long battle with cancer. She kept that she had cancer hidden very well. Those who were working with her didn’t have any idea that she was ill. I am sure some people knew but they protected her privacy and let her deal with it on her terms.
I met her a couple of times at conventions. She was always gracious. I once told her that if she has grown up in the South she would have been a prime example of a Steel Magnolia. I had to explain what a Steel Magnolia was but she laughed and agreed that it described her to a T.
I remember being at one convention where she met a young fan (5 or 6 may be) who was wearing the Andy Pandy outfit from “Hand of Fear”. This kid looked like a kid version of Ms. Sladen. The girl was rather shy meeting her idol but Elizabeth put her quickly ease and they were talking about the Doctor and the adventures Sarah Jane had with the Doctor and that it was sad that she wasn’t traveling with the Doctor now. The child beamed the rest of the convention and would tell everyone that she met Sarah Jane and how wonderful she was.
Ms. Sladen was an advocate for Doctor even when it was “on Hiatus”. She loved the program and her place in its history and the fans. She gave lots of interviews about the show and her part in it. She said she would never regret her time on the show and it always held pleasant memories for her. She also said that if she was just remember for Sarah Jane it would not be a bad thing in her book.
She will be missed.
My sympathies to her family and friends. She was a true Steel Magnolia and a lovely person.
I am grateful that I did get to meet Ms. Sladen.

My eldest Step Daughter is celebrating her birthday today.
Shana is a very intelligent young lady with a killer singing voice. She has a good ear for creating lyrics that you find yourself listening to the song over and over to make sure you did hear what you just heard. She has a song about breaking up that is falling down on the floor funny but at the same time poignant and oh so true.
She teaches music to children of a variety of ages and is very good at it. She shares her passion for music with her students and they are lucky to have her as a teacher.
She is married and her husband is a wonderful guy who loved and supports her.
She is a good cook and has learned a lot about vegetables and how you can cook them over the years. She is adventuresome in her culinary explorations and has created some really good dishes.
She shares her love of Broadway with her dad. Sondhiem being a particular favorite for them both.
So Happy Birthday My Dear! Hope the day is really good to you.
I am grateful that Shana was born.

I am on a double deadline this week with two projects (photos next week I promise both in process and final product)
So I am throwing the floor out to questions for crafty questions. They can be business questions (although I offer no legal advise), how I do something, where I learned things, have I tried to do _________? Favorite things I have build. People I have met through my art? Floor is open.
I am grateful for the creative muse and hope that she gives me the inspiration to finish these projects in time.

That would be the weather and my brain which feels very cloudy and foggy.
Yesterday we went to see Ariel in “Little Shop of Horrors” at her college. They did a good job. The sound balance was a little off but that was to my ear I think. I have a hard time not paying attention to technical details as I watch a show. My stage management training is thoroughly ingrained.
There is a fan Elfquest trailer up right now that shows that an Elfquest movie would be possible not in the future but now. Fan films use to be shaky cam with low quality due to the kind of equipment that fans could get their movies done. Super 8 fan films were the norm. Now with the cost of decent cameras now in the range of most people and the new wave of digital editing programs, fan films can look as sleek and sumptuous as the professionals.
This week is going to be a little/lot busy. Next weekend is Icon and I have to get some stuff ready for that. I also need to get some stuff done for my professional obligations. So I am dividing the day up pretty carefully into chucks of time to do what I need to do. I’ll take a look at what I am doing today to see if I need to adjust how long I think it takes for me to do something.
I am grateful for what I get done today.
