No Strings Attached

The fog is rather dense this morning. I can see the house across the street if I focus really hard. I figure once it gets lighter, this will dissipate.

Today is about restocking the larder and getting things in place for the next week. Wednesday is not a good day to go to the store. Thursday is better although the next sales aren’t in place until Friday. Overall Tuesday is their quiet day.

Fig is still doing well. I finally heard her make her “tribble” sound which I hadn’t heard since she got back from the Vet. I was afraid that she lost the sound but she can still do it. The boys are leaving her alone.

I had a series of really weird dreaming including one that couldn’t decide if it was in a fantasy world or the current age. I had technology appearing and vanishing on me all through out the dream. I was there to protect the heir from some unknown bad thing. The royal family trusted me to do so. I got rid of one threat but figured there was another one so I was looking around for that when Caroline’s dulcet tones woke me up with her call down the stairs, “Is anyone down there?” I had to let my eyeball reshape since I had pushed my knuckle into it while I was asleep.

I didn’t know until yesterday how cut throat getting a table to sell fan art at an anime convention is and the lengths some people would go to maximize their sales with OK but not great prints. Also breaking a rule that you can’t be in artist alley and the dealers room. I know at DragonCon you can be in the art show and have a table in the dealers room but not a table in artist alley and the dealers room. I honestly can’t figure out how one can make money considering the fees that the tables entail.

There is a difference between tracing and using photo reference to draw a picture. What that difference it seems to vary from person to person but after seeing the Norman Rockwell exhibit at the Louisville Slugger Museum (really cool exhibit if you haven’t seen it) I know what I believe to be the fine line. His use of photo reference helped him in his photo realistic style that he was known for.

Spring has sprung and my eyes are not happy with me nor are my sinuses. I have found that Allegra seems to be doing the job this year. I am careful that I don’t take it when taking my vitamins. Right now the pollen count is very high and I can attest to that. At least my teeth are hurting from the sinus pressure right now.

Off to get something done today. I declare it a doing day rather than a thinking about doing day. Oh look now I can see the house across the street which means the fog is lifting.

I am grateful for the wacky dreams that I have. At least I amuse myself in my sleep.

But it went right out of my head.

We’re back home but there is still a lot to do.

I got both projects out but now I have to deal with the leftovers from the project. Then it is onto spring cleaning and making Caroline’s dress for her first communion which is in two weeks as of Saturday. I can do it but I have to use my time wisely.

After that Ariel comes home from college for a little bit before going off on her summer job.

I am chairing Field Day for Caroline’s school. The former Chair is going to help but it is a big task for a day that is really important to the kids. So that is from now until June.

I got into the DragonCon Art show so now I need to figure out what I am going to display. The Steampunk animals are one thing. Aviator Granny is going in. Now I have to feel out the rest of the table. I need to put down tape to see what I have. This year I want to add some display elements with the pieces to bring it to more of a whole. Also I promised John and Anne that the dolls wouldn’t fall over this year.

Fig is doing well. She came home yesterday. So far she hasn’t tried to pull or lick the stitches. We locked the boys up so she could move around without being worried by the boys. I let them out this morning and have been keeping an eye on things. There has been some sniffing but nothing beyond that. Currently Fig is sleep on the couch in her favorite spot. For those who are wondering what happened to Figgie, we had her neutered. She went into heat so it was time. She was apparently still in heat so the operation cost a little more since it is a bit more complication.

The Travel part of our spring is pretty much over. We have a couple of local trips the next two weekends but that’s about it. Peter has a business trip in May so far. I think after that we are looking at July before we are on the move again for a couple of weeks.

We watched some baseball last night. First time in a while partially because we have been traveling and partially because there hasn’t been much to watch. It is getting better.

I am grateful that Fig is home and that she is doing well.

I am putting the pictures behind the cut.

In the past two weeks I cleaned the house for company and finished two projects that have been hanging over my head since January. One was a Bunny for an Easter Swap among the members of a Doll group I belong to and the other was a challenge for another doll group I belong to on line which will be on display in a couple of weeks at Artistic Figures in Cloth.

In other news, I am going to have a table in the DragonCon 2011 Art Show. Now to figure out what I am going to do and do it. I am thinking about a memorial Sarah Jane puppet. I have some ideas of the other things I might do but I need to do that sit down thing and get sorted out. (more…)

Since this is the first episode of the next season, I am going to repeat the ground rules I created for the NWR.

1) Above the cut are my opinions on the show without spoilers if you haven’t seen the episode but once behind the cut and in comments spoilers may abound.

2) We are only discussing episodes that have aired. I am trying to keep myself spoiler free from the rest of the season. I know there is a lot of true facts and a lot of speculation out there. I do allow you to express your theories on what is going to happen next but I really don’t care for “On X site they said Y because they were talking to the make-up artist who worked on Episode 6”

3) If you disagree with something that’s fair but be polite about it.

So general thoughts on the episodes

It was nice to see the old gang back together again. I like how they are using Rory and the actor is doing a great job with the little he is given. They do reference the Red Noses piece but it is subtle which was nice. Amy Pond is becoming a favorite companion and she is such a nice fit for this Doctor. I don’t think she would have worked as well with Tennant.

Most of the episode for me was edge of your seat Set-Up. I honestly don’t know how much will be solved next week or at the end of the season but Moffat set up both threads within the first 5 minutes. And as annoying as some parts were to the storytelling part of my brain, I will give it a go and see what he is up to.

In the end I was happy to see this set of characters again interacting and reacting to things around them and I want to know what happens next which, in my mind, is good episodic television.

I am grateful that Doctor Who is back on the air and that it is playing on both sides of the pond. (more…)

A Happy and Blessed Easter to all who celebrate.

Today is pack and travel day for the most part. Peter is going to be at the convention for about an hour today since we have a 1 o’clock flight out. This time we go from Louisville to Cleveland to LaGuardia with not a ton of time in between the two flights. So think good travel thoughts for us that we can get home in good time.

Yes, we did see the Impossible Astronaut. I will do a New Who Review for it tomorrow. Overall it was a good Moffat episode that had me on the edge of my seat for quite a while. And I do want to know what happens next.

The convention has been fun. The people are very nice. Last night I was picked at random (caught a T-Shirt tossed from the stage the ricocheted off of Peter’s head) to judge the costume contest. It was not a large affair but the contestants did a really fine job with their costumes and presentations. I got to see a Klingon play the cello which was a different experience. Caroline had more fun at the kids’ track and made out like a bandit in the Dragon Egg Hunt. Now figuring out how to get her loot home.

It has been a good convention. I really enjoyed myself and met some really nice people. I am glad we made the trip and hope we can get home again.

I am grateful for smooth travel.
