No Strings Attached

One large Thunderstorm with a couple of other rain bands behind it and Field Day was postponed. If it is raining Monday, then we aren’t having one this year which is sad. But it was not a good day for the kids to be outside. Here’s hoping for Monday.

So I have to restructure my plan for the next couple of days and figure out a new calendar for the construction. Not a biggie. I think I am going to take today to clean and straighten before diving into my next project.

Peter is proof reading the Camelot Papers for the July 8th roll out by Crazy 8 Press. It is a really fun novel taking the King Arthur legend from a totally different point of view.

I am grateful for Peter’s creativity.

For those of you who were worried about Daniel Radcliff’s career after the last Harry Potter film comes out this summer, don’t. Mr. Radcliff is going to have a very long and very healthy career on the stage. I didn’t see Equus. I stage managed a production of it a while ago and, frankly, I really didn’t feel like seeing it again. However last night Ariel and I did go see Mr. Radcliff in “How to Succeed at Business” at the Al Hirschfeld theater and he was impressive. The accent was mostly American. The singing was fine and his dancing ability is rather impressive. He acquitted most admirably.

The other “name” in the show was John Larroquette who started his Broadway career with this show and I am really hoping he continues it. He is amazing. His comic timing, which I knew was good from the other things I have seen him in, works even better when he has an audience to work off of. He can do more with the crook of a finger than many actors can do with their whole bodies in conveying an emotion. He won the Tony for Best Supporting and boy howdy did he deserve it.

Overall the production is a lot of fun. The sets are very clever. The director was also the chorographer which put the dance to a whole other level, kind of Fosse on overdrive. The costuming was bright which contrasted with the 60s style metal of the set. The cast is strong and you can tell they are having fun. There were a couple of incidents of actors trying to corpse each other (make the other crack up on stage.) A wayward box became a whole bit that was so well done it almost looked like it was planned. Anderson Cooper is the Narrator for it and he has the perfect voice for it.

I enjoyed it and laughed so hard that my sides hurt by the end. The energy was great and at no time did I feel the urge to look at my watch. Also I found myself watching the play rather than the effects around the play which can be really hard for me to do which is high praise from me.

It is a fine evening of Broadway theater in the grand sense of the word. I can highly recommend it and also predict that Mr. Radcliff is going to have a long and happy career trotting the boards.

Afterwards Ariel braved an insane crowd and got the cast to sign her poster and got her father Mr. Larroquette’s autograph. Yes, she got Mr. Radcliff’s autograph. We got caught in the madness that was the Spiderman after show party which slowed us down a lot getting through Time Square. We got home late but still smiling from the memories of the show.

I am grateful that we got to see this show with this cast.

Today is my favorite sister’s birthday.

She is smart, witty, and very clever. She is passionate in the causes that she believes in.

I admire her ability to achieve things that she wants to do. I was pretty amazed when I found out that she was moving to Japan for a while. She saved up her money for a very long time and worked out a plan of attack for going to Japan. She went and had a great adventure.

She is a brilliant writer of both prose and poetry. She is also an artist with words. Seriously, she takes words and makes art. It is really cool. You can find a number of examples of it right here.

Caroline loves her very much. Sheila is the aunt that watched videos with her and has pillow fights with her and plays with her. Caroline is always happy to spend time with Aunt Sheila. Sheila has been helping me with Caroline at DragonCon since Caroline started going to DragonCon at the age of 9 months. So Caroline equates DragonCon with spending some time with Aunt Sheila which makes the trip worth it to her. Sheila is also Caroline’s Godmother. She came up here to be there for Caroline’s first communion.

I love my sister very much as well. She had been there for me and I for her. We get along which I know can be a rarity in families. We are close and can tell each other just about anything. She is very special to me.

So Happy Birthday Sheila! Hope the Day brings you all you need and more.

I am grateful that Sheila is my sister.

Yep. No New Who Review until the Fall. However if you are just catching up, please feel free to talk about it in comments. My review was posted a week ago.

I heard a piece on NPR about a new form of artificial heart which doesn’t pump but whirl. So the recipient of the heart has no pulse. My mind went to its strange place and I have about half a zombie story worked out in my head.

Caroline’s School is celebrating Spirit Week. Today is crazy hair or hat day. We have an idea what we are doing but it is going to take a bit to do and Caroline woke up late. So she is chewing through breakfast.

Mets won yesterday and I learned something new about the baseball rules. The first run that they scored was under very unusual circumstances.

Watched the Tonys. Neil Patrick Harris was brilliant as usual. Warhorse won so score another one of the puppets. The puppets are wonderful to watch. The Jackman/Harris face-off/sing-off/dance-off had me almost sliding off the couch I was laughing so hard. Found out that two people I had worked with have passed away.

We also watching “Raiders of the Lost Ark” because yesterday was the 30th anniversary of its release. It still holds together and the stunts are just over the top amazing.

Other than that it was a quiet day. As appose to this week which is chockfull with stuff to be done. I guess I’ll start at point A and work my way to Friday.

Crafty Tuesday is moving to Wednesday this week because tomorrow is Flag Day which means it is my sister Sheila’s birthday which must be celebrated.

OK today is a gonna be a doing day rather than a thinking about doing day.

I am grateful for being able to get a lot done in a short amount of time.

Yesterday Peter and I sojourned to Brooklyn to see the free Coheed and Cambria concert that was being held at Waterfront Park. Nice venue with a lovely view if you can see across the river.

Coheed and Cambria, if you don’t know, is a progressive rock group with a serious science fiction bend along with story telling lyrics. Sort of Styx with a lot more metal. Most of their albums tell a chapter from a much longer saga called the Armory Wars.

How did we get all mixed up in this? Well Claudio’s wife Chondra read Tigerheart and really liked the voice. Claudio wanted to do the next album as a book as well as a CD. They met with Peter a couple of New York Comic Cons ago and everyone got along really well. Since then Peter has co-written a novel and a number of comic books with Chondra and Claudio.

At this point Peter had met the band and Caroline was in one of their music videos with Peter. Peter and Ariel had seen them in Madison Square Gardens a while back. Peter and I had planned on seeing them in Central Park last year but then Peter’s back gave out and we had to cancel. When we were informed they were playing in Brooklyn, we decided to go for our anniversary this year.

The weather had been threatening all day. We had a couple of heavy downpours but decided to give it a go anyway. We drove into Brooklyn through the rain but the time we got to Brooklyn, it was a little chilly but not raining. The fog had rolled in and seeing to the other side of the river was difficult but not impossible. We caught up with Blaze and got our magic all access wrists bands and headed back stage.

I have to say that all access is nice. We were able to wander where we wanted to and had a great area to stand and watch the concert from. We caught up with the guys backstage, chatted with their friends and family. Chondra and I got caught up from a conversation we had at New York Comic Con that we didn’t get to finish. It was a nice social time with adults.

The concert itself was a lot of fun. The sound was loud but not over powering. The band rocked the night away until the 10 pm sound curfew and took their bows. We said our good-byes and got home rather late with, of course, some ringing in our ears. It had been a very good evening.

I am grateful that I know the band Coheed and Cambria.
