MMHCI Troll in the Dungeon

Posted By on February 22, 2021

I was on a panel yesterday about misogyny in fandom both online and at conventions.

It ended up being more about conventions than the Internet and how far we have come along with how far we have to go.

It has changed a lot since I started going to conventions.

For one thing there are a lot more women and families at these conventions.

Another more recent change is, rather than saying well that’s just so and so and stay away from him, they take it seriously and look into the matter.

A number of individuals are most surprised when their badge gets yanked for behavior they have gotten away with for years.

I am getting through things in a timely fashion.

Today I have a list I want to get finished.

Let’s see what I can get done.

I am grateful for improvement in safety and comfort for all at conventions.

Sunshine not Snowing outside

Posted By on February 21, 2021

We figured out the last time we saw the sun was Monday of this week.

Today the sunshine is playing off the piles of snow on the ground.

A year ago, we were at Farpoint which is the last convention we attended in person.

Today I am doing two virtual panels for Farpoint. One on Doctor Who and one on Star Trek lower decks.

I miss going to conventions. I miss my convention family.

Caroline commented that this is the longest she has been in one place in her life considering that she started going to conventions at three months. She misses them also.

I look forward to being able to go to them again.

Two Unfinished Objects are finished, and I am onto the next project. I like that I got my creative mojo back on track.

Today I start by cleaning up from the last couple of projects.

I want to have a bunch projects done so I have things to sell on my website and, eventually, at conventions.

I am grateful for sunshine.

Day 3 of Snow: the “Oh Come On!” stage

Posted By on February 20, 2021

It is still snowing.

This was originally predicted to be over by lunchtime yesterday.

Apparently, the weather had other ideas.

When I went to bed last night, I checked the weather report and it said that the snow would be ending about midnight.

Nope.

Now they are saying noon today.

We will see.

We are still fine for milk and bread and things to do.

I need to get started on various things today.

Hoping for a productive day.

Day Two of Snow Muppet Show Day

Posted By on February 19, 2021

With extra Kermit Flail.

This morning we have a sheet of ice over the snow with more winter mix on the way until about lunchtime.

I don’t care because today all five seasons of the Muppet Show dropped on Disney+ so I have my day planned.

I love all of Henson’s work, which should surprise no one, but the Muppet Show is such a touchstone for me.

It was part of my childhood. The family would gather together for some must-see TV. The show became part of our family’s in-jokes.

The first three seasons were released on DVD, but due to rights issues, the last two were not. Apparently, they worked something out since those seasons are on Disney+.

I am waiting a bit before shoveling the steps. Our neighbors plowed us out. I have to put down salt overall we are pretty much village compliant.

Most of the things I want to do are inside things while watching the Muppets.

I am grateful for a decent break between weather systems.

Day One of Snow

Posted By on February 18, 2021

It is going to be snowing/sleeting/icing for a consistent almost forty-eight hours.

I did what I could to get us ready.

Fortunately, I don’t have a shift until Tuesday.

So, we can hunker down and wait out the snow.

I am really hoping that the garbage gets picked up before it gets too bad.

The cats have all gone to their various favorite warm spots and are napping.

Since I have all this time, I have a cunning plan to get some unfinished objects off my table and start some new projects.

That and a couple of other things that need to be done.

On the plus side, I redid the cat boxes, so we are good for a couple of days.

The cars are covered so we will not be those people who do not brush off the top of their cars. That can be so dangerous on the road.

I am grateful that we got a delivery of heating oil the other day.
