Presidents Day 2021

Posted By on February 15, 2021

Caroline’s winter break as well.

Today we will have rain and freezing rain making the roads and walks slippery.

How much of what is up to debate.

I have work tomorrow.

Today I declare a cleaning day to be followed by crafty shenanigans.

Mentally I am in a bit of a seesaw right now. Reacting to the world around me.

I am going to brag about my child who I am very proud of.  Caroline’s second marking period were all A’s with the lowest being a 96.  She works so hard at school under not the best circumstances. After her break, she goes back to school five days a week. She is looking forward to returning full time to school for the first in eleven months.

I am grateful for every bit of normal we are getting back.

Crafty Tuesday: Thinking Fast

Posted By on February 9, 2021

I am a problem solver. Have been my entire life.

Give me a task and I can work through how to do it rapidly.

My brain runs through the possibilities and figuring out the best solution.

I break down what I want to build in my head.

Then I work through how I can do it.

Today I want to make a prototype mouse for a set that Caroline and I came up with.

I have been working through how I am going to make the shape I want.

Once I get that down, I have figured out how I am going to make the individual mice.

They are based on the mice versions of the characters in Persona 5.

Making their little masks is the challenge.

More on that soon.

There is another project that is close to done then I will reveal after it gets to their new owner.

Today I will work through things and be creative.

My brain needs the workout.

I am grateful for new materials to play with.

MMHCI Even Keel

Posted By on February 8, 2021

That is in a nutshell how I feel.

The keel is a flat blade sticking down into the water from a sailboat’s bottom. It has two functions: it prevents the boat from being blown sideways by the wind, and it holds the ballast that keeps the boat right-side up.

When you have an even keel then you can make progress smoothly and steadily as you sail. You don’t have to worry about the boat tipping over and dumping you into the drink.

That is what the last week has been. Smooth and steady progress on several fronts.

There were a few bumps along the way.

A second round of snow with a deep freeze following it was not fun this morning. I am glad that Caroline had a two-hour delay which allowed me to get the car, the steps, and driveway ready to go.

I have been planning carefully for what is ahead. That has helped me a lot.

We have a couple of weather systems that will bring rain or snow depending on what is happening south of us. I will deal with them as they occur.

I feel more control of what is going on around me.

This could fall apart with any number of things. However, I plan to enjoy it.

I am grateful for ice melt.

Superb Owl 2021

Posted By on February 7, 2021

Eight years ago I was in Jacksonville to bring Peter home.

We had a visitor who wanted to see how Peter was doing that caused a bit of a stir at the facility.

(For the VI: On the left is Stephen King wearing a grey t-shirt and glasses. On the right is me wearing a Dark Tower t-shirt)

He arranged to get us home when a nor’easter hit the in New York and allowed me to check off fly on a private jet off my bucket list.

Today we will start with rain that will become snow. The possible totals keep sliding up and down since there is a front to our south that keeps sliding around.

Just as I finished typing the previous paragraph, it started snowing.

We have our usual Super Bowl snacks and plan not to put a toe outside.

I have plans for today. I think I have the energy for them.

This morning Mewlan, our scaredy cat, has been snuggling up next to insisting on pets. It only took three years, and I am glad for the progress as she had a very hard life before we adopted her. She was a feral who was caught, fixed and, rather than notching her ear, they lopped the top of her left ear off. She was caught again and domesticated. She was adopted but then returned because, at times, she walked like a drunken sailor. They warned us she might have brain damage. When we took her to our vet, we found out that her knees in the back would pop in and out of place thus giving her that strange walk on occasion. She has settled in and, when she wants to be, is quite the lovey.

I hope to have a finished product or two to show on Tuesday.

I am grateful for not having to go outside today.

Oh and The Bucs by 7.

RTBTCKI What will be the new normal?

Posted By on February 6, 2021

We were talking at work about COVID and the vaccine. It came up in the discussion that we are never going back to life as it was before COVID. There are changes that are going to be permanent both socially, physically, and mentally.

There is going to be fallout from this for years to come.

I have work today then I am off until Wednesday which I am happy with since it means I am not going into work during yet another snowstorm.

I am going to pick up one or two things we need after work so if we are trapped for a day or so, we are covered for the basics.

Tomorrow is the Superb Owl. Peter is debating if he is going to live blog the commercials.

I am concerned for the mental health of my country. We are almost at the year mark from when this all started, and it had been terrifying.

I am concerned for our children and their schooling. Remote learning only works if the student is motivated to do the work. And we will have a generation of children whose social interactions were stunted.

We will get through this but in what condition is anyone’s guess.

I am grateful for positive news and working towards the new normal.
