They have a point about treating each Christmas as Last Christmas. You honestly don’t know where you are going to be a year later or even if you are going to still be.
This was an interesting one. Combination of two films in a way or the tropes of those films. More on that behind the cut.
Solid acting all the way around. Story kept me engaged. Nick Frost was born to play Santa Clause. They managed to keep the magic of Santa for the believers, which I did have some concerns about.
It entertained me and in the end isn’t that the purpose of Doctor Who?
Alien meets Inception is how I have seen this episode described and it pretty much was that.
This was, according to things I read, to be the last Clara episode and if that had been the last time we saw Clara, I would not be upset. Nor am I upset that Jenna Coleman decided to stay around for the next season. I enjoyed Clara more this season than the previous ones. Capaldi and Coleman mesh well and I look forward to seeing the next season.
It was a clever episode. And again not a bad thing to have a clever episode. I had about half of it sorted out but the ending still surprised me a bit.
Santa and the Doctor having a go at each other was worth watching the whole episode.
I am grateful for shows that still entertain me even after all these years.

Our travels were fun. We enjoyed our time with friends and family.
Our journey back was uneventful which is always good. Getting to the point to get the journey started was a little more exciting.
Apparently we had been running around on a bad tire. There was a slash on the tire that went to where you could see the steel belt of the tire.
So that was the adventure of trying to replace the car when there are no cars to be had. It was longer than it needed to be and ended with the excitement that I left the EZ pass in the rental that they changed the tire on and rented it out again. Why they couldn’t have just changed the tire and given us back the car is beyond my understanding.
Those of you who live in EZ pass land know how hard it is to get around without one. Here’s where our AAA auto membership came in handy. I was able to replace the sensor at an AAA office in Pennsylvania. So we had an EZ pass when we needed it to get home.
Getting onto the island was another adventure. All the approaches were just horrid. Lincoln tunnel one hour and don’t ask about the Holland. GW Bridge 45 min and the highway beyond was a parking lot. We ended up going up and over the Tappen Zee to the Whitestone to the Cross I to the Grand Central to the Northern State to the LIE. And if you understand that, you live in the area or have lived in the area.
I am grateful to be home in one piece.

Since Peter had his stroke.
It started two years ago today in Disney Hollywood just outside Sid Cahuengas (which no longer exists).
So here’s a reminder of the things to ask if you suspect someone is having a stroke
Ask the individual to smile.
Ask him or her to raise both arms.
Ask the person to speak a simple sentence.
And I would add the tongue test where you have the person to stick out their tongue straight. If it is canting one way or the other, get them to a hospital ASAP.
Two years later and Peter is in the lucky 1% who is considered to be fully recovered from his sort of stroke.
His upper mental skills were never damaged. He just had to regain motor coordination on the right side of his body, which he fought hard to do.
We had to make a number of changes in our lives and are thankful we didn’t have to make more.
Today we are on our way home from visiting family in the south. We have a drive in front of us but we can do it. And the best thing is that we can do it together with Peter.
Hug your loved ones. Tell your friends that you appreciate them.
Because in the blink of an eye, your entire life can change.
I am so very grateful that Peter is still here.

Yesterday was nice and simple. Get up. Eat Breakfast (Eggs Benedict). Open Presents. See Movie. Short Nap. Dinner. Visit Friends. Watch Doctor Who. Go to sleep.
Today is a little more complicated but has a pattern to it as well. Ariel is coming down from Knoxville for a visit. I have lunch with a childhood friend sort of planned which will firm up a little later this morning. I am planning on doing laundry here rather than back at home. We will pack or repack depending on how you look at it. And tonight, unless plans change, we are going to start the trek home.
The movie we saw was Into the Wood. A musical that Peter is rather fond of. Overall solid performances and a good translation from stage to screen. Bonus points for not Disney-fying the ending and going with the one from the play. We figured out that they could have done a number from Mama Mia in the middle of all that because they had the three female leads from that film in this one. This one does have enough going on that the large screen helps sort it all out. I would not say that 3-D will add to it.
New Who Review on Monday for the Last Christmas. Overall I enjoyed it. One of the darker episodes of the series. I am trying to find something out before I write my review but more on that on Monday.
Since we will be traveling, I have no idea if I will be posting or not the next couple of days.
I am grateful for time with friends even if it is short.

We are in Atlanta at my folks. Caroline is re-reading Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire waiting for my brother and sister to arrive for the traditional Eggs Benedict and present opening. I think she is vibrating a little from excitement.
The drive up from Jacksonville did have some challenges including a couple of torrential rainstorms that crossed our path. Peter got through those safely. At one point my phone, his phone, the iPads and the car all started to make that noise you hear before the test of the Emergency Broadcast System however this time wasn’t a test but a warning of serious flash flooding in the area. That they could do it that locally was pretty amazing.
Last night was our traditional Christmas Eve dinner, which is a comfort. I know what is going to happen and when. I know I will be eating Christmas Cookies at the end of the meal. I know the ceremony before the meal. It is familiar having been played out all the Christmas’ I can remember first at my Grandmother’s house and now at my mothers.
Today we plan to go see Into the Woods for our Christmas movie. I plan to go see my friends Jeff and Angelo. And to finish up the day view the Doctor Who Special. Again traditions are important and comforting.
So Happy Christmas to you all. I wish you the best of the season.
