Valentine’s Day 2019

Posted By on February 14, 2019

Actually comes out of the 14thcentury ideal of courtly love , think Lancelot, Arthur, and that lot.

It is in the 18thcentury that we get the cards, confections, and cards.

The Victorians really took it over the top.

Not bad for a martyred saint who met a rather bloody end that had chuck all to do with courtly love.

Some people love this day and other loath it and all that it stands for.

Peter and I celebrate it. We had no idea that we were going to find someone later in our lives that would become our other half. But we did and we love each other more every day.

Many people like the sales on chocolate the day after. I couldn’t find a consensus on which the patron saint of chocolate is.

It’s a day to celebrate the idea of romantic love.

So celebrate or don’t depending on how you fell about it.

Peter and I continue to do so in our own way.

I love you Peter very much.

I am grateful for chocolate.

Slippery but that’s about it. Could have been much worse

Yesterday’s storm dumped snow to ice to rain. Biggest problem was traction. When driving you had to be hyper alert to what your car was doing and how to break safely.

The school did do an early dismissal because of the roads.

Caroline had an orthodontist appointment that Peter drove her to using only main roads rather than the faster back route that takes you down smaller less used roads.

Today the sun is out and the roads are damp but not icy. By this afternoon I think that all the snow will be gone except those areas that have no direct sunlight.

Back to normal until the next storm, which is currently rain not snow.

If we get through February without one heck of a snowstorm, I will buy one lottery ticket because we always seem to have one of our larger storms in this month.

This week feels a little like a pause because we are between Farpoint and Caroline’s winter break. Usually one directly follows the other because of President’s Day but not this year.

I am cleaning up from the previous trip and getting ready for the next one.

I am grateful for decent weather for the winter.

Waiting on the Weather

OK we are back up and running here. There was some error that caused a bit of a pause. That seems to have been cleared up and I am posting again.

This will probably be one of those weather fronts that the North shore and the South shore of Long Island are going to see two totally different sets of weather. On the North shore they are talking snow and ice and rain causing possible driving problems. The South shore might get a little snow before it all turns to cold rain. As long as you drive like an adult with a couple of years of driving under your belt, you will be fine on the South Shore.

Farpoint was amazing as always. Lots of little adventures and spending time with friends.

Highlight for me was getting Vizzini to Wallace Shawn who informed the head of Farpoint that he was ‘gobsmacked’ at the gift in a good way. He really liked it. I was able to talk to him for a short time about his work in both theater and film as a writer.

It was also nice spending some brief time with Maurice and Rob doing our short catch-up on life and family that we always seem to do at conventions.

I talked to a lot of people about various topics but was only on two panels included a Dr Who driven one that I tried to turn into a discussion as there were eight people in the room. Gave me some freedom to wander the convention.

We left Sunday because Caroline had school on Monday. There was snow and sleet that fell after we had gone. People leaving Monday said it was a bit of the pain but they all got to where they were going.

This week is all about putting things back from Farpoint and getting ready to visit Ariel and family next week. We have made our dates flexible because of weather considerations.

I am grateful that we made it home in the amount of time it should take to get home.

And the Spanner has been removed

Or rather fate had a change of plans. Which I will elaborate more on tomorrow.

So now I can rethink my rethinking of my plans. Still going to get that one project done today or as close to done as I can so I can work on a few other things before the convention.

I had a feeling after some news I got last night that this was going to be the case.

This morning all three cats were staring at me because I hadn’t fed them their wet food for the day. That was very creepy to begin with but they were in a semicircle in front of me raising the creepy way up. They are now fed and much happier with me.

Caroline will have artwork in the art show at Farpoint. She has grown so much as an artist and has a style that is truly her’s.

I will have some puppets in it as well which is next on my list. Finishing one and fixing the others so they look their best.

Might also have a go at the website again to see if I can get it finished or in viewable form before Farpoint.

I am grateful for cell phones and instant communication.

Sage Advice: Always expect a curve ball just when you got your swing

And I did get one that will change the structure of the week but does not affect Farpoint.

It does, however, put a big ol’ spanner in my plans for the week.

My list got compressed and limited.

This may also limit my ability to blog for a couple of days but I am going to try to keep up.

So start with project A and find Project B and go from there.

I can do this.

I am grateful for things that will move this along.
