Nutcracker…..Sweet

Posted By on December 11, 2008

Today I am chaperoning for Caroline’s kindergarten class. They are going on their first Field Trip to see the Nutcracker. The kids are excited about it according to Caroline. I am figuring that this will be a good chunk of my day and that’s fine by me. I haven’t seen a live production of the Nutcracker in a while.

Speaking of Theater, my sympathies both to Mr. Tennant who has undergone surgery for a slipped disk today and will not be back in Hamlet until after Christmas and to all those ticket holders who will not be seeing him as the Dane. I wish him a speedy recovery. His understudy is getting very good notices from the critics so the show is still worth seeing.

If you are in Atlanta and into Muppets, there is the Jim Henson Exhibit at the Atlanta Historical Society until January 18th. Also a couple of exhibits that are Muppet related at the Center for Puppetry Arts. I plan to try to see both when I am down there for Christmas.

I am hoping that the weather clears up before Saturday so we can make our Holiday trip into the city. Today is very wet and this evening will probably get wetter. This is the cold rain that drives me nuts because I know that a couple of degrees and this all turns to snow. But today is cold wet bone chilling rain.

I am grateful that I am going with Caroline to her first ballet.

I was also set to try to convince my wife to take a quickie trip up to Atlanta around my birthday in January, then I Googled the Henson exhibit and found out it will be in our neck of the woods in Orlando from Feb. 7 to May 3! O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!

Nutcracker is fun! I just saw my hometown studio(Anaheim Ballet) do there version last weekend. They also do podcasts on youtube which Caroline might like. The “Ask a Ballerina” is pretty funny and there are a couple Nut related ones up as well.
