Slip Sliding Away

Posted By on August 7, 2008

I did something I have never done while bowling. I belly flopped onto the lanes. I was going for my approach just like normal when my left foot stuck. I got the ball off my hand and then went down onto the lanes. I knew I was falling so I tucked my shoulder like I was taught to a long time ago and landed hard with a little but of skid due to the oil on the lanes. Banged up one knee and a shoulder but I was able to finish out the game. I did get a strike on the ball that did count since it is not a sanctioned league. I’m a little sore this morning and can see where some of the bruises are going to come in.

So Brett Farve is a Jet now. Can’t say that I am not surprised but I think it is a boner move on the Jets part. And considering what the details of the deal were, I don’t see how this is going to benefit the Jets for the long term and frankly for the short term either.

One of the nice things about living in a town where a lot of the businesses are locally owned is that when you have a problem, you get a pretty fast response. I think part of it is that there is no large corporate structure to go through. You call up and tend to get the owner who makes sure that the job is done. We had some house ants in the kitchen. One or two we chalk up to the usual wildlife but we had a stream of them and in new places as well. So we called our local guys who do a good job and take care of the bugs with stuff that is not harmful to our pets or young children. They also checked the termite traps we have around the house and re-baited those that needed it.

Today I need to make some bodies and start on the prep work for some puppets. There are gluing things that need 24 hours to dry before I can take it to the next step. I also need to make my demo blinking eyeballs for DragonCon.

I am grateful that there was not more damage from the fall.

Yeowch. That doesn’t sound like fun. Glad the bang-up was at least relatively minor!

That’s almost as bad as me whacking myself in the back of the knee with the ball as I swung forward and almost falling flat on my back… three times in one week. Ouch.

Wow, yesterday must hae been the day for falls. I got a call from my daughter’s school at lunchtime yesterday asking if I could come and pick her up. She’d taken a tumble down the library stairs. Today she has fairlt colourful knees and elbow, and has “ricked” her neck. She’s been to the dr, nothing to worry about, but no school today and no hockey tonight (field hockey, she plays left half).

Ooh, Kath! I once did a “Home Alone” fall while bowling: where you see your feet before you hit! Think: Charlie Brown trying to kick the football!

I’m glad, too, you weren’t hurt more!
