Box Finally Arrived

Posted By on October 17, 2006

The Apple return crate arrived yesterday and I got the computer picked up so now I sit and wait to hear what is going to happen next.

I spend most of yesterday recovering from some dental work. Our dentist does a fine job at keeping the pain to a minimum but still there is some discomfort. He is a very good dentist. I figured out while sitting in the dental chair that I have had only 3 dentists even though I have had my teeth cleaned twice a year since I was 7. My family used the same dentist until he retired and then switched to one of his partners. Once I moved to New York I started using Peter’s and he turned out to be another excellent dentist. So I count my blessings in that regard.

I am using Peter’s computer until mine gets back. Since Peter has been so busy (which is a good thing ask any freelancer) I haven’t been able to be on it often except a few minutes to check my mail. So if I am slow to respond to something please forgive me, I am internet limited at the moment.

The end of Project Runway is tomorrow and I am trying to think if there is anyway for them to drag this out any longer. There probably is and they will figure it out by next season. I am concerned about Michael’s collection that I have seen through the clips of the last episode. It looks like he is trying too hard and not going with his strengths. Uli’s looks like fun and I want to see it on the Runway. Laura’s looks safe and right in her wheelhouse except that black bird dress which I really wonder how it is going to look on a person. Jeffrey did play to his strengths but we have the question of was his walk a real one or just to keep people guessing who was in and who was auf. I have gotten entirely too wrapped up in this show.

The next episode of Doctor Who is “Girl in the Fireplace” which is one of my favorites and will probably be up for a Hugo award next year. Make sure that you stay with it until the end because then it all makes a weird sort of sense. I know Neil Gaiman liked this one which should give you a clue as to the tone of the piece.

Off to work on Boots costumes to see if I can find some takers for them.

I am grateful that over the years I have had such good dentists.

Having a good dentist is definitely something to be grateful for. I have an amusing story about dentist, but ANYONE PHOBIC ABOUT DENTIST SHOULD PROBABLY STOP READING NOW.

I’ve only had two dentists in my life. The one that I used since I was very young retired a few years ago, but one of the last times I visited him he did some minor dental work on a tooth. He was semi-retired at that point and I sometimes was seen by him and sometimes by his partner. Anyway I was remarking to him that I was just him working on me seemed to go better and I thought that a good part of it was that I had built up a great deal of subconscious trust for him. Right after I tell him how much I trust him he checks the tooth and tell me that it’s really minor work and he doesn’t think it really needs any novacaine! So I (metaphorically) gritted my and put my money where my mouth was. He was right. It didn’t hurt at all. He drilled a bit and set the filling and it was fine, it took less time than it would have if we’d had to wait on the novacaine, and I could talk fine immediately afterwards as opposed slurring due to numbness. But jeez, talk about talking yourself into a corner…
