Here’s to you Mrs. Robinson

My sympathies to Anne Bancroft’s family and friends. She was a great actress and seemed like a good human being. I will always treasure her guest appearance on the Muppet Show.
Yea, this is a little later than usual but I have been having some real tussles for control over my computer. I think it is behaving finally. Peter got Ariel to school at 6 Am since she has her class trip today. He worked through the night on the next New Frontiers novel. Her class is going to Hersey Park. Ariel is looking forward to the roller coasters and other rides. I got to sleep until 8 when I heard Caroline wake up which is a luxury for me. We had to get the Van to the mechanic because of a problem with the air conditioning. Caroline had been in a bit of a mood all morning. It has gone from a short spring to a hot summer. We are heading rapidly to 90.
I have got to get something done today besides this entry. I have already gotten a couple of projects off the ground but nothing in its final form. I have to try again today. I want to get some pictures of the new puppets up and the information to the class about the puppets I have for sale. I also want to continue on other project I have started and have finally worked out the mechanics in my head.
I am grateful that I got to sleep in.
I went to Hershey Park when I was a little girl and they still had tours through the actual factory. (Am I dating myself?) I remember wanting to jump in the huge room of melted chocolate. Sadly, my parents vetoed the idea.
Jeeze Karen, we must be the same age (I know, a lady never tells. I’m 44 and feeling every day). I went to the Hershey plant probably around 1974 or 75. You got to go through the actual plant, see the LAKES OF MELTED CHOCOLATE beeing stirred by giant machines and just dream about how great it would be to jump in. They also gave you a free candy bar at the end which, for a kid, just seals the deal.
A few year later we went back and the “tour” was now a ride that didn’t actually take you through the plant. Also, no candy bar. Bášŧárdš!
Kathleen, My daughter works at HersheyPark and hopes that Ariel and her class had a great time.
Karen and Bill, I hate to make you feel older, but I’ve lived in Hershey since 1973 and they stopped the factory tours before I moved here. The ride at Chocolate World was created because of sanitation at the plant. In the past few years, they have been handing out Hershey miniture bars at the end of the ride.
A bit of trivia. The corporation that makes the candy and the corporation that owns HersheyPark and resorts are separate companies. They share the similar names because they were both started by Milton Hershey.
Bill,
What month is your birthday? I’m a November baby and never subscribed to the “Ladies never tell” rule. I’m also 44. But since I have a 5 year old, she keeps me young!
Michael,
To heck with sanitation! How are we going to raise the next generation of chocolate junkies without the incentive of the chocolate lakes? (Nice term, Bill.) I’ve even seen reports that chocolate is GOOD for you!
Karen–December 27th, 1960. At least I know one person who will get my jokes about obscure 60s cartoons and ads (Remember Mr Bubble?).
In a related vein, Anhesiser Bucshe used to give tours of the beer plant in St Louis with, yes, a free beer at the end. Good times, good times.
Aw man, you’re younger than me. By almost 2 months. November 8, 1960, the day Kennedy was elected. Needless to say, my mom didn’t get to vote that day.
How about those Dinah Shore Chevy ads? Sometimes that tune will enter my consciousness and I’ll never get it out of my head!
