I’m gonna say something that sounds rather obvious. She gave up fighting her insurance carrier up too soon. Of course they were going to say no, they didn’t want to pay out the money.

I admit, she shouldn’t have to, but had she taken them to court, any competent judge would have laughed at the insurance company before ordering them to pay both medical costs AND legal fees.

And a visit to a senator wouldn’t have hurt either. I don’t know how long it’s been, but she might want to consult with an attorney to see if she can still sue. If she has a problem paying the attorney, she might want to consider making it a class action suit and getting others like her to sign on. Not only could she end up getting the medical help she needs, but she could end up changing the insurance company’s policy for the better.

The apocalypse is clearly upon us — I agree with pretty much every word EClark writes above.

I think there’s a much better case to be made for covering the reduction surgery than the augmentation surgery (except in cases of reconstruction, as you said). In this case, a doctor even *recommended* the procedure.

    Sheesh.

[Of course, this gets back to various gender-based observations on health care. Fights galore over whether contraception is covered by insurance or even sold by some pharmacies, but Viagra? No problemo.]
