I don’t mean to disagree with you, Kath, because in all reality I don’t, but Kirstie’s real problem is Kirstie. she had a series while she was fat before, Veronica’s Closet. She got fatter. Then there are the Pier One Commercials that she does. So it’s not like she can’t find work at all.
There’s also the number of actresses in Hollywood/Television that buck the trend. Kathy Najimy, Rose Ann, Wendy Jo Sperber (from Bosum Buddies. I know it’s been a while, but believe it or not she LOST weight and no one would hire her.) Sarah LaRue, and even Ricki Lake.
To say nothing of Queen Latifah and Camryn Mannheim.
Those Pier One commercials were scary. One of the best things on SNL in recent years was Nia Vardalos parodying them.
Still, it’s good that Kirstie has a sense of humor about herself. I don’t get Showtime, but if I did I would probably check out her show.
Not to mention Kim Coles, Thea Vidale, MoNique, and Oprah was no light weight when she got her show. Kirstie’s got a better case claiming racism!
I think the difference between Kirstie Alley and the other…full figured women mentioned, is that at one time Kirstie was thin and had somewhat of the sex-symbol status.
I haven’t seen the show, as I don’t get Showtime…but I did see a recent People mag with an article and some pictures. For whatever it’s worth, I still think she’s incredibly attractive. Moreso now than a few years ago when she was not quite as heavy as she is now…but sported the ‘gothy’ look.
