“I really think it is impolite to interview someone for a job and then let them find out through the grapevine that someone else was hired.”

Strongly and passionately seconded. I had a similar situation several years ago when interviewing for a teaching job. I don’t mind that I wasn’t the one hired — the school didn’t feel like a great fit anyway — but I’ve always been somewhat annoyed that the only contact I ever had with the school afterwards was getting a reimbursement for travel. The school I’m working for now does tend to play them athletically quite a bit — I always root for a little more ášš-kicking than usual. 🙂

    Hope the elbow gets better!
