Kid’s Stuff

Posted By on December 12, 2004

The skies are clearing up and I think we are in for a crisp but sunny day. There are predictions of some possible snow showers for tomorrow but I am not holding my breath. I had two cats barfing this morning so I clean up the mess and then barfed myself but in the toilet rather than in the middle of the living room. What a way to wake up.

We watched Mary Poppins last night. It held Caroline

Wow, must be something in the air – both our cats barfed this morning as well!

Sorry to hear about all the barfing, both on the feline and human fronts.

And while I’m certainly curious to see what Burton does with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the original film is pretty much burned into my memory frame-by-frame and isn’t something that IMO *needs* remaking.

I don’t know if you’ve seen the extras on the 30th-anniversary DVD for the original film, but Gene Wilder talks about a bunch of stuff in one interview, including Wonka’s very first appearance (with the limp turning into the somersault). He said something to the effect of, “I wanted to make it clear from Willy Wonka’s very first appearance that this is NOT a man you can trust. He’s not really that nice a person.”

I like your “force of nature” description. Here’s hoping he more or less stays that way this time.

(Dahl’s book is wonderful as well, but the film’s the one that’s trapped in my memory.)
