Kath,
I hope no one gets offended by this question since I really don’t mean to offend anyone. But I know that Ariel just celebrated her bat mitzvah (bat for girls, bar for boys, right?) and I know that technically, since you still claim to be Catholic, Caroline is NOT Jewish, right?
I guess what I’m trying to ask is that isn’t it correct, that Jewish heritage follows the maternal line, not the paternal line? So if Caroline ever wants to BE Jewish would she have to officially convert to Judaism or is it more or less that she just starts attending services in the synagogue?
Also, if you decide to convert to Judaism, does she then get grandfathered (or mothered) in?
Just curious.
Once one is confirmed one is a Catholic even if they decide to join another religion they are still Catholic in the eyes of the church. They become a lapsed Catholic.
Even if I converted to Judiasm, she would have to make a choice to become a Jew. She would not become one because I would be one. Basicaly she has jewish ancestory but is not jewish unless she converts
Thanks for the answer, Kath. It’s always good to know stuff like that in case it comes up while you’re writing. Again, I hope I didn’t offend anyone. Sometimes personal questions like that are considered out of bounds.
