Just to keep this going…..

Halloween went well. We handed out a lot of comics. I had neighbors complimenting me on the decorations I put up in front of the house. The kicker was the pirate I created out of one of the Gentlemen puppets, a goblin costume, and a sign that said
You know Kath. Since I’ve stopped posting on PAD’s blog and just been posting on your blog and occasionally Glenn’s, I’m much happier and healthier. My BP’s gone down a bit and I’m working on my cholesterol.
Yeah, I still peek at a few posts from time to time, but knowing that I’m going to ignore them for the most part soothes me.
As for your decorations, I’m glad I don’t live in your neighborhood. I would have had to respectfully ask you to take down the hanging pirate. Being a black man, I would have found that offensive as hëll, even if I knew it wasn’t your intention.
Giving out comics was a good idea for the older kids, but did you stick with the traditional candy for the younger ones?
Alas, I no longer celebrate Halloween, and short of abolishing it all together, I advocate abolishing the going door to door part strenuously. I don’t expect a large following.
And if you as a neighbor had expressed a problem with the figure then I would have taken it down. I did have an ethnic mix visiting the house since our town is rather diverse and they liked the display but your milage may vary a lot esp. since I am in the NE and you are in the South. We are known as “the house that gives out comics” and people trek from all over to get their comics every year.
Yes, we do give candy to the munchkins.
I love the idea of giving out comics for HW. These days we’re living far enough off the beaten path that we tend to have less than a dozen trick-or-treaters all night, but if we wind up moving somewhere else at some point we may have to look into that.
(Given comic prices, though, that’s an expensive Halloween! )
Addendum: we had about ten trick-or-treaters this year, all part of the same gaggle. We got to show off Katherine’s dinosaur costume and get the requisite ooh’s and aah’s. One of my big reactions, though, was “y’know, when my reaction to that costume isn’t ‘oh, how cute’ so much as ‘that’s showing a bit too much, isn’t it?’, I think it means you’re too old to be trick-or-treating…
