  1. They voted their heart!

Congratulations Avenue Q! Broadway’s fuzziest musical pulled off a massive upset last night, stunning the Broadway community bv beating out Wicked (which even I thought was a shoo-in) for Best…

I may be wrong, but I believe that I caught a glimpse of Avenue Q on Breakfast with the Arts on A&E (a great thing to watch on Sunday morning, by the way). Now I’m not a big fan of either theater or puppeteering, music is more my thing, but what I saw caught and held my attention. It was quite entertaining.

And you’re right. It’s not just for kids. It always bothers me when people make that assumption. I, for one, like to remind them that Jim Hensen was childish but could afford his own planet. That usually shuts ’em up!

    Salutations,

    Mitch

i thought it was great that avenue Q won last night
    but i was wondering
where does one go to learn how to be a puppeteer?

My wife and I had the great pleasure to see AVENUE Q on Broadway, and it is a joy. (So was ASSASSINS, the other show that won.)

The producers of AVENUE Q are looking for talented actors and singers to be trained in puppetry for the road production; they’re having more luck, that way, than looking for puppeteers who can meet the vocal demands of the show.

as a puppeteer and puppet builder i truly hate the desion to see only “ACTORs”who they feel can be TRAINED to be puppeteers, it takes years of practice and study to become a good puppeteer, you can not rush someone thru a crash course and hope for the best , a lot of puppetry is instict, based on your knowledge of a particular puppet , and how it works, and wht its limitations are, few actors if any can really master the subtelies of this art form
