It is rain or is it snow

Posted By on January 18, 2020

We will have some form of precipitation today for a period of time. The big question mark is the form that this will take. It may start as snow but will change to rain as the temperature rises. The point between the two is the guessing game.

I do not need to go to the store today because I went yesterday so we have our French toast kit and toilet paper. I would not want to go today because it is Saturday when the store is usual a zoo and with a storm on the horizon it will be that more of a zoo. Anyone getting cold cuts at the Deli counter is in for a very long wait.

Still working through allergies or cold. I will say that my throat is feeling better this morning which is a first in a while.

Caroline and I have a plan of attack for the day. Let’s see what we can get done. It is all indoor work because of the weather.

I am grateful for not slipping on ice.

RTBTKCI Now is the winter…

Posted By on January 17, 2020

Winter came back this morning with lower temperatures and wind making it even colder. I can feel the cold coming through the glass of the window. Not looking forward going outside today but it must be done.

I have caught up on Project Runway which is a guilty pleasure of mine along with Ink Master. It is an interesting group of designers. Having now watched the format for a while, I can see how some of these people are being edited to be a specific type and they are probably nothing like how they are edited. Makes me wonder how I would be presented on one of these shows. Probably the older mom type which seems to be my public image.

Phoebe has been bouncing around and knocking stuff off of tables and the like. She and Mewlan played a game of chase that went all over the house. They are curled up on the couch next to each other asleep.

I had a question about a book the other day and I asked the author about it. I got a quick response that clarified the subject for me. Then I stopped and thought about what just happened. The author is one I have been reading since I was a teenager and was one of my favorite authors as I grew up. Now we are friends and keep up with each other’s lives and family. If I could tell my teen-self what would happen later in my life, I would not believe myself.

I know I am very lucky that I have lived the life I have lived. I have had opportunities that others only dream of. I try to share the wealth when I can. I love introducing my friends to each other especially when I feel they need to know each other. I feel blessed every day.

Puppetry has given me the life I currently lead. If Peter had not bought the puppet I created, then I would not find myself sitting in my house writing this. Caroline would not exist. She has thanked that puppet more than once for bring her parents together. A number of puppets that I have given to people created lifelong friendships which I treasure every day. Teaching others how to do what I do is, I believe, my calling. I want others to know how to build puppets so I can see what they do with it. And they have done splendid things indeed.

I am grateful for my life.

Allergies or Head Cold

Posted By on January 16, 2020

The sinus version of Gay or European.

I have not felt at my best. I had been running a fever for a bit but that’s not happening now. So it might be allergies with a post nasal drip that is making my throat feel like raw meat. My glands are not sore at all. The biggest pain is my teeth. They ache hard which is causing me a headache.

But it is not enough to declare the day a wash. If I am sick then I am not enough to declare it a sick day. If it is allergies, then I just have to power through because allergies are not an excuse to stop. They just are and one deals with them.

Today is about getting ready to deliver a meal tomorrow to Caroline’s Robotics team. The parents split up the duties for feeding the team as they build their robot for competition.  It works well. The students get fed and the parents have to deal with dinner for their kid once in a build season.

Caroline and I have been taking a kickboxing class that is being cancelled. There is another one but it empathizes cardio rather than form. We are going to try it and see if, now that we know all the forms, it works for us. If not we have a couple of other classes that will do what we want. We are going to miss those classes with that instructor who has become a friend. The biggest loss for me is the class before bowling. It loosened me up for bowling. Days that I went to the class, I bowled better. Last night I bowling my first 200 in that league.

I am going to take today as a regroup day to figure out the rest of the month.

I am grateful that I can still breath through my nose.

RTBTCKI Winter is Coming

And should be back here by the end of the week.

Yesterday was a productive day. I managed to do most of my list and a couple other things.

I have my list for today ready to go and I hope to get most of it done.

Wednesday is one of my more structured days because of kickboxing and bowling.

Congratulations to Ken Jennings for winning the Jeopardy Greatest of All-Time award. Could not have gone to a nicer guy. Plus he knows who Peter is.

Told you this would be random.

I got the paper recycling out this morning and there was a lot of it since the last time paper was picked up was about a month ago. And we had large objects to go out as well.

I am calling this a creative day. Some projects I want to get a leg up on need to be started today.

I discovered that Donkey’s Years, a phrase I have been using for a long time, started as Donkey’s ears because the ears were long and it was a bad pun.

Heard around the house, “How many dark ones can we control?” “3….no 5 but two of them have to be very tiny.” It has to do with the Dark One’s Dagger from Once Upon a Time and how many versions we happen to have around the house. My favorite is the blade my brother made for me for my 50th birthday.

My cats have settled down for their morning naps. Phoebe has chosen a new spot that has made walking into the kitchen a bit of an adventure.

I have a quirky idea I want to execute before Farpoint. Let’s see if I can do it.

Fandom is both making me smile and frown at the same time. I am saying it again for those who didn’t hear me last time, the actor is not the character. Some of the best villains have been played by the sweetest people and some heroes are real jerks as themselves. Some actors move onto the next role and don’t want to answer questions from something they did 30 years ago, others love talking about it. Actors are human with the same feelings, faults, and foibles as the rest of us. Although television would have you believe otherwise with the captions “Real people not Actors”. That phrase drives both Peter and me up a wall.

Our TV remote has giving up the ghost for some reason. It is blinking when touched but not working. Might be a trip to Cablevision for a replacement. I am using the app to work the TV but it is hard to control. Fortunately, we have several ways of turning off and on the TV itself.

Spies in Disguise was a fun film and I learned several things about pigeons I did not know.

I am grateful for that which entertains me.

Crafty Tuesday One for me

I make a lot of puppets for various reasons. I have built them for shows, for sketches at conventions, for puppet slams, for individuals, and to see if I can do it.

It is rare that I make a puppet specifically for me. There are a couple that have become my puppets like the War Doctor I took onto Capaldi’s TARDIS, Rumpelstiltskin because he grew on me the more I performed with him, and those puppets I have had signed over the years.

But for me to say I am making this puppet for me is practically unheard of.

There would be pictures but apparently my online photo storage is not working and I haven’t found something that I like that stays.

When I started watching anime, it was on Channel 17 in Atlanta which became TBS when cable TV became available. One of the things that they showed was a terrible mash-up of Captain Harlock and Queen of 1,000 years. I was fascinated with both series but really like Harlock. I became a fan of Leiji Matsumoto’s body of work as well.

There are times I thought about building myself a Harlock puppet but I didn’t feel my skills were to a point that I could execute it the way I wanted it.

Well I feel I can do it now. I have resources for things I didn’t have before and materials that have been invented since I first had the idea.

This will be my summer puppet for conventions. There are a couple of others I want to do as well but this one is going to get made.

Yes, there are things here I have not done or not done in a long time, but I do believe this is possible.

I am grateful for my skill set.
