Happy 65th Birthday to Kermit the Front

Posted By on May 9, 2020

Saturday April 9, 2020 aka Day 55 of the Homebound Saga

Today is the day that Muppetologists have agreed is Kermit’s Birthday. It was the premiere of Sam and Friends in 1955.

I have said before that I consider Kermit my spirit animal. I can relate to him on so many levels.

(For the VI: On the right is the original Kermit puppet. The puppet is green and doesn’t have the ruffle around the neck that the current Kermit has. His body is tube shaped rather than slightly round. On the left is a current Kermit on a box.)

(for the VI: I am standing right of the case that holds Kermit sitting on a director’s chair.)

(for the VI: This is a black and white photo taken at the opening of the Center for Puppetry Arts. In the center surrounded by people is Kermit with Jim Henson right behind him.)

Kermit has been part of my life since Sesame Street debuted in 1969. He was the voice of reason in the chaos of the Muppet Show.

I will never forget how I felt when I saw the Muppet Movie and heard “The Rainbow Connection” for the first time. It moved me and continues to do so.

Kermit and his wisdom have been there for me in dark times. His silliness has amused me over the years.

He is such a part of my life that I cannot image it without him.

Happy Birthday to Kermit the Frog.

I am grateful for the Muppets.

Day 54 of the Homebound Saga

The trees have their leaves and the cars are covered in a green dust. We need a good rain to wash it all away since the car washes are closed right now.

Today is Friday and tomorrow begins the weekend which feels like two more Fridays or whatever day you pick.

I will say there is a lot of yard work being done. People are doing those projects that they said they would do if they had time. There are new weeded garden beds with plants in them. Dead brush is being chopped up and put out to the curb. We see these improvements as we walk each day.

I am grateful for pleasant walks.

Day 52 of the Homebound Saga

(For the VI: this is a camel in an office setting with his mouth open. The caption across the top reads “Guess what day it is?” and the caption on the bottom reads “Actually, please tell me, because at this point I have no idea”)

A clarification, if anyone cares, they cancelled the Dragon-Con parade not the convention itself. It makes sense to do so at this time and there is always next year.

The weather today is dark and gloomy. However, it doesn’t seem to be raining at this time. We have the lights on in the living room so we can see.

Today is a take it as it comes day. I am not planning but doing what needs to be done in the order of how things come across my plate.

I also have a heating pad and gentle stretching on the docket as I got the tests done that they wanted me to do. The results show nothing wrong from a spine point of view so it’s muscles that are bunched up.

I am trying to move to keep my body loose so nothing else bunches up causing additional issues.

My brain feels in a quandary today. Focus is not my strong suit as my thoughts and emotions are running all over the place.

I am grateful to friends who brighten up my day.

AKA Day 51 of the homebound saga aka Cinco de Mayo which is on Taco Tuesday this year.

The UFOs are about where they were last week, which is a disappointment to me on so many levels.

I cannot magically make pain go away, so I have to give myself a pass and try to do better this week.

I miss going to fabric stores and being able to touch the fabric to find what I want to use for projects. I do have a good fabric stash to work off of, but it is not perfect. And those pesky items that I need to finish things like buttons and other notions are out of reach right now.

I will make do with what I have and be happy with it.

The next time we will be attending a convention keeps getting further and further down the calendar. I am figuring it might be next year before we will attend one.

That doesn’t mean I should stop the project I wanted to get done for DragonCon. I should get it done before that weekend just to have a goal.

I also want to get puppets for sale on my website.

I have no idea if I will sell them, but I plan to try to get some income in that we are not getting from our convention circuit.

I have things to do and I have to get myself back in shape to do them. This week I am going to focus on seeing if I can get my back sorted out so I can work again.

I am grateful for my insane fabric stash.

Day 50 of the Homebound Saga

Today is Star Wars Day and the fans celebrate the Star Wars Universe.

But there is a more solemn entertainment anniversary that needs to be mentioned. On May 4th, 1891 Sir Arthur Conan Doyle tossed Holmes and Moriarty over the falls and thought he was done with him.

I plan on reading ‘The Final Problem’ and watch the Grenada version of that story.

I am also going to watch the movie I saw back in 1977 when it didn’t say episode four and Han shot first.

Star Wars was the beginning of the nerds shall rule the earth. That movie was a cultural phenomenon. It was the first time that you could wear a fannish shirt and not get odd looks from the general public but a thumbs up.

I am grateful for Star Wars and all the lovely things it has brought me.
