I gave a go at writing a novel this month but we are 5 days in and it is not in the cards for me. Perhaps next year and perhaps swine will become airborne. Honestly this year I have a few other writing projects that need to be done this month that can lead to some money in the bank, which would be a good thing in my book. Also another couple credits for publishing wouldn’t be a bad thing.
I have been going over what I have had published and it is a longer list than I thought. A number of the projects were with Peter and that’s fine by me because I have learned a lot from him about writing. (I also recommend his “Writing Comics and Graphic Novels with Peter David” which also works for screenplays. It is a lot of good information on how to write as well.). But there are a number that are my own as well.
I guess I can officially call myself a professional writer now. I have a hard time with this sort of thing. I didn’t call myself an artist for years. I called myself a craftsman until an artist that I really admire informed me that I was an artist and had to get use to it. Stage Manager was more quantifiable for me. Puppeteer was just part of me like breathing. I can’t remember a time I didn’t think of myself as a puppeteer even before I knew the word really.
The title Mom was bestowed the day my daughter was born. And it is the toughest job I have ever had but the rewards are great. This morning Caroline got up on her own which makes the rest of the morning easier. We got her ready for school and made sure she had everything she needed in her backpack. This afternoon I will pick her up from the bus and we will start our weekend.
I am grateful that I have so many different careers under my belt.

I actually know that my efforts the past two days weren’t futile. I got the back yard and the front yard pretty much ready for the winter. I did the last mow of the lawn and got all the edges and weird growth patterns. I chopped back a couple of lower limbs that were making mowing difficult. I took care of the tree at the front of the property which I am going to be thinking of as the Fig Tree even though it is an oak because that’s where I found Figaro.
But this morning while the rain was pouring, I looked out over the back yard and saw the entire area covered in leaves. All that work seems to have come to naught. I do know better. There are fewer leaves than there would be if I hadn’t cleaned up the backyard. And it will be easier to take care of after everything dries out which won’t be today. Tomorrow isn’t looking much better either. Nor is Saturday. Sunday is a may be.
I have come to the conclusion that living is chaos or rather creates chaos. Living is not a close system. Things come into your life and leave your life. You may remember that before New York Comic Con I had gotten large chunks of the house spotless. Well not so much now. Post Halloween we have the comic book mess to deal with along with anything else that has entered this house. So today I am going to try to create order from chaos. And yes I do feel a like Sisyphus at times.
I am grateful that I am good at making order out of chaos.

I am sure we will be hearing discussions about this election until the next election cycle rolls around. At least the political ads are done and my mail box will have less paper in it.
Yesterday we voted, we took Caroline out to lunch and I got half the yard done including some bush and tree trimming that should have been done last year. I got behind due to our trip to Australia and New Zealand which I wouldn’t trade for the world. Today I want to finish up the first pass on the leaves in the yard and go onto the next project that I am working on. I also think that the Halloween decorations are going back into the garage. I’ll pull forward my holiday lights in anticipation of the next lighting display.
I bought a new set of tools from an artist that I greatly admire. He has an Etsy Shop> where he sells his dolls, puppets and tools. Seriously give it a look. His work is amazing. These tools are made for making smaller sculptures. So I want to give it a go.
On the writing front, I think my novel in a month died on the vine due to lack of time. Also it is nagging in the back of my head that I forgot a great idea that I had that I wanted to use. That’ll teach me not to write things down. I plan to give the old college try to see if I can catch up but I am not holding my breath. Plus I have that other project that would pay me real cash rather than possible cash.
Also I did sign up to do Live Journal Idol again and we have our first topic to write about. I am debating about which to write about. I think I know. The two topics are winding up and here there be dragons. Also my email box is getting absurd on two fronts so it needs its fall cleaning.
Fig and the Boys (sounds like the name of a band) are working out their kitty politics. I think we can get them to all live together. Right now it is under our supervision but the interaction has been pretty good.

If you are a voter in America with all the rights and privileges there in, I encourage you to take the time and vote today. I honestly don’t care if you are left, right or center. We have a responsibility to vote. Also don’t think that your vote doesn’t count. It does. And honestly, if you can vote and don’t because it is inconvenient or you just don’t feel like it, I feel you can’t complain about how the country and your local government is treating you.
My parents instilled the importance of being able to vote in me by both word and example. They would take me long to the polling place and I would watch them go through the process. In High School during my senior year I registered to vote and as soon as I was 18 and there was an election, I cast my first ballot. Since then I have either voted at my polling place or by absentee ballot with one exception that I still feel bad about. I didn’t register in time due to my own procrastination.
We have a process in place here that other people envy. We can express our political views in public rather than a whisper campaign. I hold freedom of speech very dearly.
Peter went to the Rally in DC and got to see a sea of people gather to show that, for the most part, we as a nation are rather centrists. And that gets lost in all the shouting between the left and the right. And who decided which party was left and which party was right? But that’s another rant.
Honestly I just want to get along with my neighbors and live my life the way that I want to and raise my child the way I think is right for her. And one of the things I want to teach her is the importance of voting. So today she will be going with us to the polls so she can watch us vote and we can pass on the tradition so when she can vote, she will.
I am grateful that I can vote even if the new system is a little screwy.

Everyone remembers All Hallows Eve but a lot of people forget that today is All Saints Day. So remember the Saints today even if you immediately think about the Football team.
Yesterday was fun. We got our pumpkins carved. I got Caroline into her costume. We went Trick or Treating with her friend. She got enough candy to make it worth it but not so much that it is going to be around until next year.

Caroline dressed as Mulan for the Harvest Dance. No weapons were allowed so she went with this instead of Astrid.
We had to limit Fig’s movement a lot yesterday. We didn’t want her to vanish into the night so she spent a good part of the day in the bathroom that we first put her into.

I managed to pull all my photos off of the mac website that is vanishing on the 8th. I will miss that site and a bunch of links are going to go dead. I don’t know if I can find a way to replace the links with working ones.
Today is the start of Writing a Novel in a Month. I guess I’ll give it a go. I have a couple of ideas and want to see what I can do with them. I also have another project I do have to get done this week in the realm of writing.
We have Fox back just in time to see the Jets lose to a very tight Packers team. I didn’t see anything else because we were dealing with all those last minute Halloween things that we have to deal with every year.
Peter had lots of fun in Washington at the Rally. I have to say that I liked what I saw of it. It was nice to see America as it really is standing out there on the Mall ready to be reasonable. Remember if you are a registered voter in the US to VOTE tomorrow. I really don’t care your political affiliations, I just want you to use your vote to support something or someone.
I am grateful that Halloween went pretty smoothly.
