Where did the month go?

Time is speeding up again. I looked at the calendar to see when something was and realized that another month had passed. We started the month in Disney World which can be a fun place to start a month. Since then there has been travel, illness and other adventures including seeing Nathan Lane’s last performance as Gomez.

Next month has its own set of problems and adventures that have to be dealt with. I should also find out if I am showing art work at DragonCon or not. I think we got our show letters off to them but I should check. May is going to be very busy until I get to the middle of the month then June will be just around the corner. Summer looms and I am not even really into Spring.

Today I finish one project and start the next one. Some where in today is also a visit to the grocery and the meat store. Caroline is going to see Diary of a Wimpy Kid Roderick Rules today but I think Peter is going to take her since he did for the first film which I have yet to see.

I am grateful for Caroline’s boundless Imagination.

Oh Spring, you tease. You gave us some nice weather and now we are back to wind that is making the very low 40s feel like the high 20s. Not much is going to happen outside the house this weekend except some stick picking up.

Caroline did fine in school yesterday. She is good to go back today so we are pretty much back in schedule.

Got a chunk done on one project but the other went on hold because Peter and I went to see “Paul”.

What a clever movie. I laughed very hard through out and there are some really far in jokes that were very funny. I know we had one other true fan nerd in the theater because we were not the only ones laughing. The cast is top notch. I can’t tell you who some of the people are because that is part of the fun of the film.

Simon Pegg and Nick Frost wrote a very clever script but they are also the brains behind “Hot Fuzz” and “Shaun of the Dead” so I would expect clever from them. Basically two british geeks are over for comic con and decide to visit all the alien sites in the Southwest in an RV and along the way they meet up with an alien named Paul who has been on our planet since 1947 and hilarity ensues.

Well worth seeing and there are some scope things that do need the big screen but most of it would work on any screen. My sides still hurt a bit from laughing. I haven’t seen a film that gave me that true belly laugh in a while.

I am grateful that I took the time to see Paul.

Caroline woke up fever free. She still has sniffles but they aren’t that bad.

There is snow on the ground, however the sidewalk and street are damp but not icy.

So off to school she will go having missed half a week. She kept up with her homework and will get back to what she needs to be doing in school today.

I want to get back on track today with a couple of projects. I do have a couple of household chores on the list that need to be done for the smoothing running of the house.

I am so grateful that Caroline woke up without fever.

At least at this point it is not sticking since the ground is not that cold. Just looks kinda pretty sort of.

Day 5 for the Battle of the Virus vs. Caroline. Every time we think she has this beat, the fever comes back with a vengeance. She is a miserable little girl right now. In these marvelous days of E-mail I got her spelling words so she can at least get that done before she goes back.

So not much else has gotten done this week. But that is because she needs us right now and that is my priority. I might have a go at one thing I want to do since I can work on it while she is on the couch resting.

Well my brackets are a total bust this year with the exception of Ohio State and Kentucky. I don’t think they have gone down in flames that fast ever.

Baseball official starts soon. The Spring Training Games are fun to watch but it is time for the official season to start.

Football is still a mess and what happens at the draft is going to be telling about what is going to happen in the Fall. I think they will get it together but I am not expecting a full season. There is always college football to watch.

Got my images to work for the DragonCon Art show. Now let’s see if I get in. I think Peter finally faxed our guest letters of intent the other day. It looks like the only shows I am in for the rest of the year are Shoreleave, DragonCon (if I get in), and two doll shows I have commitments for. Since that is pretty light, I am going to try to get my Esty shop up and running. Yeah, I have said this before but I really want to this time. Now I just have to figure out how it works.

Fig loves to sit in the front window and watch the world go by. She will sit there until she falls asleep there. I have to chase her off when I want to use my sewing machine because she sits in front of it.

It stopped snowing now but they expect more later this afternoon when the second front comes through.

Has anyone noticed that recently last years touted drugs on TV are this years lawsuit fodder? I really wonder about the testing phase of these drugs and how many drugs that work just as well (if not better) are being pushed to the side for the drugs that the companies have a patent on so they can make more money. Maybe we need to re-examine what we already have on our shelves that we can use to cure our ills already. Also notice how fast the drugs go from prescription to shelf once the patent is up especially the allergy medications. The cost to the patient goes way up because health insurance is no longer footing the bill for the pill.
Caroline is getting a bit frustrated with her Pokemon game. She managed to cruise through the first 3 badges but the 4th badge is eluding her. I told her what she needed to do but it is going to take time to get her Pokemon up to what she needs to get the badge. I think she’ll do it but she is probably going to drop the game for a while and go back to it which is fine by me. She is reading rather than playing a video game.

I am grateful to signs that Caroline is on the mend.

Sometime I feel like I chase my muse around the house and she stops at points that will distract from my pursuit of my goal. There are days that she hides very cleverly in my head and blows raspberries at me when I go to grab her. And other days she sits around sipping whatever muses sip to unwind and dares me to catch her because she is right there and not going to move but I have other things that need to be done so she knows that she is safe.

We call the lack of an idea or the next step in an idea being blocked. I never lack ideas in fact I have too many running around in my head that I know that I will never get them all done in my life time. A number are shelved because they need a skill set that I don’t have or haven’t mastered yet. But I have enough to work on that I want to make in this world.

The process from idea to product can be a difficult one. Getting the vision in one’s head to the actual working world can be a challenge. This part of the process is where I wish I didn’t have negative drawing ability. I can draft something to show what I need to have built but that’s about it. My skill seems to be bringing my ideas out in 3-D rather than 2-D.

And then there are days that I pull out the clay and just can’t get the shape in my head to come out in the clay. I end up doing and redoing more times than I care count. At some point I realize that the character in my hands is not going to be the one in my head so I put that idea in the box and start to play with what I have in front of me to see where it is going. Sometimes I like it better than the original idea and other times I just go with the flow on it. I have a box of things that might never get finished or will be finished when I am in a crunch. I am not entirely happy with them but there is something there for me to work with.

It can be frustrating to say the least but I know that eventually my muse will finished sipping her fine beverage and get off her toadstool and help me. I just need to give her the time that she needs to revive herself so she can help me.

I have learned over the years that when push comes to shove, there is no time to get blocked. You just keep moving forward and get done what you can get done because you are on a deadline. Sometimes the muse cooperates and other times you just go on the skills you know you have and fake your way through a project and hope that she pops up later to see how you did.

I am grateful for muses that hang around.
