For some but not all. Braves are playing today but the rest of my teams are playing tomorrow. It’s all good. We have baseball again.
I learned at an early age that you don’t lying on your curriculum vitae. I carried that through out my work history.
While I was at Yale we talked about what you could and couldn’t put on your resume and how much trouble it can get you into if you do add information that is not accurate. My advisor told us about an actor who seem to have a very good resume and lots of experience. She was running the casting call and looked at the actor’s resume. She noticed that he had listed a show off Broadway that had gotten good notices. Now funny thing, she was the stage manger of that show from workshop to off Broadway run and she had never heard or seen this guy. She told the director before the guy came in about this. Now she has a pretty generic name that has been used for both genders. The director talked to the actor about his credits and asked him about this particular show. The director asked how it was to work with the stage manager. The actor said, “Oh, he was great to work with.” At that point my advisor introduced herself to the young man and strongly suggested that he go home and rewrite his resume only with things he had done.
There are a number of things I have worked on that are not on my stage management or tech resume because they were for a couple of days as a job in. I didn’t stage manage the show so I don’t put it down. Even the tech stuff I only list stuff that I can pull out a playbill and show my name in the credits of the show.
I have never sat down and written out what I have had published until the other day. I had more than I thought and Peter reminded me of a couple that we worked on together that I had totally forgotten about. It’s a nice little list and I hope to expand it. I don’t put down anthologies that I wrote for that I wasn’t published in even though I was invited to submit, yes there are some that do that.
Claiming to have done something or knowing someone without actually doing so is a major no-no and with the Internet it is so much easier to find out what is truth, what is stretched truth, and what is a fabrication. Also many of these industries are rather small when broken down. Most of the professionals either know each other or know of each other especially if you are throwing out names that mean something outside of the industry.
We are told that Honesty is the best Policy when we were young. I think that needs hold when we are adults as well. I guess we did learn a lot of what we needed to know in kindergarten.
I am grateful for honest people.

The Industry Revolution and what followed allows many of us to take two days of from work per week instead of one or none. There are some that have two jobs that they go seven days a week and there are others that have jobs, like farmers, that there is no such thing as a real day off. So Wednesday is the day that many start figuring out what their weekend is going to be.
I have a pretty fair idea what is going on this weekend and next weekend. After that it gets a little fuzzier but I know we have some things scheduled. My next breather will be after May 15th. Until then I am peddle to the metal until I get everything I need to get done, done.
Today is about the house. I have various errands I need to run along with a trip to the gym for my workout. I have a schedule of how I think I am going to get everything done. We’ll see how well I can keep it.
I heard one job is already filled and haven’t heard about the other two. So again I was resume to prove that they had what they needed in house. I wish they would at least talk to me before dismissing me so out of hand. May be we should get paid a nominal fee when our resume is used to fill some government rule.
I am grateful to anyone who looks at my resume seriously to fill a job.

I finished the Fabric Postcards this week. Took me a little long, all right a lot longer, to do than I thought it would.
So here is the final product which went into the mail yesterday.
(For the Visually Impaired: In the picture are three postcards. Two fronts of the postcards and one back of the postcard. The back of the postcard is white with brown thread on the edges and a stamp with a line and bubble pattern in the middle of the card if you hold it horizontally. The front of the postcard has a vertical version and a horizontal version of the same picture. The top of the card is blue with small dots in a splatter pattern of gold and white. The bottom is green like grass. In the middle of the card is a stump with roots trailing off from the stump. The roots have new plant growth emerging. In the blue starry sky is a moon with the face of a woman in the left hand corner. There are a couple of traditional stars stamped onto the fabric as well)

I learned a lot while making these. I don’t quilt much so this made me rethink how I can put fabric together for this sort of thing. I would probably do it again but at least this time I have some idea how much time each would take.
Next is a rabbit for a swap and my Steampunk Doll which is finally coming together in my head. Those I hope to have done by next Tuesday.

As I have stated previously, Monday’s are my busy day or rather my most scheduled day of the week. Other days have one or two things attached to them but I pretty much know what I am doing on Monday during the school year.
Today I have a few things I need to shoe-horn in with the usual schedule. I sat down with a piece of paper and a pencil and I figured out how I am going to do them too. So I am set for the day.
There is an interesting ruling in copyright law and fair use that has many photographers cheering. You can find a good article about it at ArtInfo. It is interesting reading as to both sides either cheering or crying in the blog-o-sphere about the implications of the ruling. Being a long time photographer, I am happy to see this ruling. I know it is not the end of it, but at least it is being talked about finally.
This weekend was a busy one at Bleed Cool as they exposed an artist for making derivative works on top of other people’s works and being a rather cunning liar about who they have worked for and what they had done in the industry. Basically in one weekend the house of cards that they build came falling all around them. I think I am a bit angry because he brought a couple of my friends into the mix as people that he worked for or ghosted for. I think the ghosted part annoyed me more than anything else since the artists in question take pride in being able to finish their projects. Plus he used the name of a friend who passed away recently as one of the people he worked for.
There was the usual every three months blow-up on the doll board about using pieces of patterns without credit which lead to a lot of heated discussion about when does a work become an original. There was another pattern that was published in a leading doll pattern magazine that was a tracing including the original pattern makers marking of a doll pattern from the early 70s that the artist still sells to this day. Part of the reason I make my own patterns.
I am grateful at artists who respect other artists work and rights to that work.

So this morning, after getting a reminder e-mail from my library, I renewed the books I want to hang onto for a little long from the libraries website.
After that I checked Amazon to see if any new puppetry books had been publishing along with checking to see if a couple of authors’ series that I follow are having any books coming out soon. I also did some other word searches and followed some of the suggestions of books I also might like.
I went to Google to look at pictures of Rabbit Faces for one of the projects I am working on and then to Instructables to see if someone had instructions to make something like something else I want to make. I found something close but not quite what I needed.
I caught up through Facebook, Live Journal, and Google Reader on a number of friends lives and a couple of professional sites I follow. I am happy that Runo, a Japanese Doll Maker, has checked in and she is fine.(Sidebar to MAB: She has a new bunny pattern that is just too cute). I stopped by the New York Times website to see what was going on in the world then to the BBC site to see the POV from England.
Later today I plan to use various machines to wash my dishes for me and my laundry. While they are doing that, I can do other things.
Today I am feeling very positive about technology and machines.
I am grateful for tech that helps rather than hinders.
