No Strings Attached

This is a chunk of New Who to Review but honestly I think it is better to look at this as a piece. The Rebel Flesh and the Almost People were a two parter but considering what happens at the end of the Almost People, it needs to be done as a block.

I got to the end of these three and thought, “Moffat, you magnificent bášŧárd. You have my attention for the second half of the season for sure.” We have answers to things from last season that seemed to be throw aways at the time. We have a number of answers for the first part of the season. And we have yet more questions. As Peter said, this is going to be one of those seasons that you sit down one evening and marathon to see all the threads that were created.

Acting is solid all the way around. Arthur Darville is making Rory a new favorite companion in my book. Matt Smith gets to play around with some other emotions and reactions that shows he has a big range than they had originally given the Doctor (more about that in the spoiler section). Karen Gillian was given some really tough stuff to play around with this season and she did a great job.

This was good Who with all the monsters and morality you could shake a stick at.

I am grateful for the first half of this season and looking forward to the second half.

Behind the cut is going to be both my thoughts an a little speculation about the second half. I ask the comments stick to the first half of this season and only your own speculation. I don’t want/need spoilers. I accidently got one for A Good Man Goes to War and it took the punch out of something. If you haven’t seen the episodes I am talking about well here there be spoilers but I am breaking it into two pieces with a break in between because A Good Man Goes to War hasn’t been shown in the US

Right now I am the only one awake as Casa David. I can see the four cats stretched out either in sunbeams or on soft cushion. Peter’s fever finally broke and he is upstairs sound asleep after a rather miserable night of it. Ariel came home from Relay for Life and is asleep in her bed. Caroline is sleeping in this morning just a bit.

It is early enough that we don’t have lawn mowers going. Traffic is light which will change later today when everyone starts going home from Fire Island. I can hear birds and the occasional bark of a dog or a squirrel. Not quite a pause but a bit of a respite from the busy day to come. A bit of peace in a very noisy world. So I am sitting back and enjoying it while I can.

And my mind is a bit all over the place right now. External peace yes, inner peace not so much. In Kung Fu Panda 2, Po is instructed by Shifu that he needs to find inner peace for the task to come. There is a visual in the film that is Po trying to find inner peace and he ends up beating his head against a mast instead because he can’t find it. I can relate to that a little more than is probably good for me. I can find the occasional stillness within usually when I am working on a project. I won’t really notice it until it is gone. I have found this especially when I am sculpting but it happens when I am sewing too. It all seems to fit together and flow.

I do have Doctor Who but haven’t watched it. I figure a New Who Review will appear tomorrow with both of the last two episodes and a wrap-up of a first half of the season. No spoilers today please since I am not caught up. A friend gets me the confidentials and other stuff later. I have gotten caught up on Hawaii 5-0, Game of Thrones, Nikita, and a few other series that have had series enders. So far I think Supernatural takes the cake for endings this year although Chuck had a real twist.

And Caroline is up about her usual time. She came down and the cats woke up and went over to her for their usual morning skritched. So parts of the house are waking up. Caroline picked up the book she was reading and settled in to finish it. She is working her way through her Big Book of Seuss. She is currently reading the Lorax. After that, she has informed me, she is going to finish up A Light in the Attic by Shel Silvestein.

Yesterday we watched the Cats 101 marathon on Animal Planet. It was very interesting and we learned a lot about breeds of cats along with information that is very useful to know if you are a cat owner. We have a couple of polydactyl cats in the group. We have to be careful of the claws in the extra toes they have. Our cats are foundlings so they are classified as American domestic shorthairs and we leave it at that. They might have some strains of other breeds but they are basically the cat equivalent of mutts. They are indoor cats with the oldest being 15 and the youngest less than a year old.

I need to go through my supplies and sort out what I am going to use for the next batch of dolls and puppets. I have been avoiding doing this but I think it is time to do so. That is going to take most of the day but I can’t start until Peter gets up because I want to give his body lots of time to heal from the fever. I am hoping I can find my box of doll wigs to make my life easier among other things like armature wire and clay. I’d like to get a body or two done today.

I am grateful for this morning giving me a little peace and calm before the day really starts.

And here I thought I had been done with the hurtie teeth and swollen sinuses. But this morning there was something in the air that just didn’t agree with me. So back on the allergy meds I go in hopes of being able to think clearly today.

Caroline and Peter are going to have a daddy/daughter lunch and some fun at the Disney Store. The Disney Store is doing a series of crafts over the next month to promote Cars 2. These are really fun and don’t cost anything to do. This week is martial arts week. Next week is Undercover Adventure.

Tonight is Relay for Life. Ariel and her friends are gathering up the stuff that they need for the trek.

I am working on Field Day. We hit a slight wrinkle I am trying to figure out how we are going to get around it.

I think I am going to sit down with a couple of pieces of paper and some colored pencils and figure out the next two month.

I am grateful to those who have helped with Relay for Life.

With a couple of things going on. Ariel had Relay for Life this weekend so one of us is going to have to be the adult for the group. Peter is writing a novel or rather finishing a novel this weekend. And Caroline wants to shoot hoops and lay out in the hammock as she waits for the end of the school year. We don’t have anyone coming over and we aren’t going anywhere.

So that gives me sometime to work on various projects that need to be worked on before I get too far behind along with doing some family stuff with the family.

I have at least 5 costumes to do along with at least 3 puppets and various dolls before Shoreleave. If Caroline is going to do a costume, she needs to figure it out now so I can add it into the mix.

So this will be a thinking/planning weekend.

I am grateful for anything that helps get me to the next step in the road.

I feel like I need to take a breath and step back to give my mind some time to wind down. Right now my mind is in overdrive and I am having a hard time keeping up.

I have a feeling that a piece of paper is in my near future so I can do a brain dump and maybe calm down the noise that is going on in my head.

I had to take one of the cats in to the Vet this morning so I have had coffee at this point but I am keeping the title. Vanillie is over grooming himself and losing weight so we went to have him checked out. The vet is concerned about the cat so tests were done and I was given pills to help with what seems to be an allergic reaction.

The other cats seem fine. In fact they are fighting over an open window right now. Fig gave up and went to another open window.

Sports hasn’t held much interest for me right now. I know the lockout is still going on. The Heat won the first game in the NBA finals. The Canucks beat the Bruins. The Mets are not doing well at all both in terms of injury and as a team.

DragonCon and Shoreleave are looming but first Field Day at Caroline’s school. I have done a chunk of the leg work but I need to get some feed back so I know what I need to do next. Then onto the rest of the piles of things I need to do.

Anyone know any anthologies looking for entries? I have a couple of stories worked out but don’t really know where to look.

Peter is working on the next Fable novel. He has hit the point where I start just tossing food down into the office and we don’t see him very much.

Some days I wish that people would be made responsible for what they say on the Internet. Yes, this is one of those days. I think if they knew that their companies and family could see what they are saying, they might think really hard before saying it.

Honestly everything I say here I would say in public. I don’t hide. The person you see here is the person you would meet or have met in person. And I know that seems to put me in the minority of the denizens of the Internet but I think people are better than some of the slimy behavior I am currently have to wade through.

I need to go find Vanillie because he has vanished on me.

I am grateful for things that make my kitties feel better.
