Because I have had a cup and a half of coffee.
Yesterday Peter and I took some us time and went to see The Artist which is a black and white (mostly) silent film. I had heard good things about it from a number of people and there was only one theater at this end of Long Island that was showing it so we went and are very glad we did. I really think it needs to be seen in a movie theater. A lot will be lost on even a large small screen and this is a movie that revels in being a movie. There is Oscar buzz on this one and it is well deserved. Between this and Hugo, early film is well represented in the movies these days.
The weather outside is wet but not cold. It was worse this morning but has slowly getting better. Not that I am going to be doing anything outside today.
I am getting a doll itch that will probably see me getting out the wire and the clay to start up on my next figure. I might do two or three at the same time. Then it is onto the puppets.
Face Off was interesting. I wonder why certain people were picked. I did find it interesting that we found out pretty quick who had time management skills and who didn’t. The final products were interesting. It would have been fun if the flying monkeys had been part of it. The guys are scared of how good the women are and they should be. If a couple of the ladies get their time management better, it is going to be hard to stop them.
I am grateful for time to do what I want to do.

How thankful I am to responsible dog owners. The number of dogs on the block out number the cats. It seems to me that all the attention/press goes to the owners of difficult dogs and outright bad owners which is a crying shame since there are so many good dog owners out there. This morning various dogs and owners were walking up and down the block and everyone had their dog under control and cleaned up after their dog. Those owners aren’t given enough praise and recognition that they deserve for all the work they put into taking good care of their pets. So Thank You!
Going to the gym which I should do today since it is a gym day. I need to find my other weight lifting glove which has seem to have vanished from my workout bag. I know I had two in there the other day when I left the gym so I have to figure out which cat dragged it where. I need the wrist support for arm day especially when I am upping the weight on a couple of exercises. Hoping that I can get a bench since in January a lot of people are in resolution mode.
Wednesday is recycling day in my town and this week was paper which for us usually is a lot of recycling since we have a lot of paper. This week more so since we got the bundles of book earnings info from various publishers. We have gone through it and noted things we needed to note and now we recycle it. I am waiting for someday for this to go electronic so we don’t get three reams of paper from one publisher every couple of months. But not anytime soon apparently.
I need to get the paperwork in for LunaCon and Farpoint this year. Farpoint is going to be interesting since we have some schedule stuff around it.
Orlando peeps, I’ll be down in your neck of the woods February the week of the 13th. I am going down there with some friends and we will be hitting the parks. Hope to see some of you while I am down there.
Face Off starts tonight and promises to be very interesting. So I have two reality shows that I watch on at this time. Face Off on Wednesday and Project Runway at Thursday. I am waiting for the costuming show that would be a combination of the make-up and the costumes like you see at conventions. Or maybe a recreation show where you have to recreate things based on tv and films.
I have seasonal affected disorder or as we use to call it the winter blues. I have learned over the years ways of counteracting the symptoms and how to work through it. But there are times that I know I am hitting serious bottom and I need to break through and get back in the game. Exercise helps. Various herbs help. Avoid certain things help. However there are just days that no matter what I do, I just can’t shake the black cloud. So I hug my little girl and kiss my husband and promise myself that it will get better as hard as it is for me believe. During these times I tend to get angry that my creative part of my brain seems to just shut down on me and that is very frustrating.
So I am off to the gym and then some errands with Peter and going to enjoy the sunshine before the rain hits.
I am grateful for things that counteract the winter blues.

So this year I will be attending and showing at
Farpoint (Feb 17-19)
LunaCon (March 16-18th)
Shoreleave (Aug 3-5th Note date change)
DragonCon (Aug 31st to Sept 3rd)
Or that’s all I know at this point.
In terms of costuming, Caroline is going to do Cheshire at Farpoint. I am sure we will come up with something for Shoreleave. And I have a couple of things I need to do for DragonCon. So that’s the costuming end of things.
Now we will be attending a couple of conventions in addition to those but those are the ones I know I will have art in.
DragonCon has you tell them what you are bringing way ahead of the convention so that they can plan for where the tables are and generate barcodes that work for their system. So DragonCon is sort of the end of my season with things like New York Comic Con in as a bonus for showing stuff.
Most years I start thinking about DragonCon almost right after DragonCon but I tend to plan for DragonCon in June so this year I am going to start planning now and get stuff done in a timely fashion. My goal is to get everything that I say I am going to bring down to DragonCon. This is barring the unforeseen like last year’s hurricane which really put a crimp in my plans.
So right now I am trying to sort out what kind of things I want to bring to the shows. I know there will be new dolls and puppets. I am wondering if I should do a mask or two ala the Cheshire mask I made for Caroline. I don’t want to add to much to the mix but it is always good to add something new. I am feeling another set of hand puppets ala the Boy Wizard set I had a couple of years ago. Firefly is still my thought on that.
I have another idea that is rolling around in my head that I might do or might not. I am still on the fence about it.
Puppets are going to play a big roll this year especially since DragonCon will be having a puppetry track for the first time. So I plan to promote puppets this year. I am thinking maybe a marionette or two.
I am grateful for art shows that are great for my kind of art.

It feels like a Monday. Caroline was very good about getting up and getting ready for school. I had a neck cramp that woke me up in almost screaming agony at 3 AM but I managed to get it under control and drifted in and out of sleep. This morning everything is fine with my neck.
I am taking Monday as the day to sort out the rest of the week barring the unforeseen. We have a lot of unforeseen in this house because of our schedules and lack of schedules which sometimes conflict. I have written down the baby steps I want to accomplish this week. If I get them done early, then I will add some new ones.
DragonCon will have a puppetry track this year. If you go to DragonCon, I hope you will attended. The guys running it are going to do a kick-ášš job. I plan to participate. More on that as things develop.
So the Broncos pulled it out and Tebow(ing) will be on the radar for another week. Giants have a slim chance again the Packers. I think the Saints have it back together. I also think that the Pats are going to run roughshod over the Broncos. The only game that I haven’t a clue on is the Texans vs. the Ravens game. It could go either way and depends I think on turnovers.
Tomorrow is Crafty Tuesday, which will be about plans for this year’s conventions leading up to DragonCon which really is my big show of the year.
I am grateful for things I get done in a timely fashion.

Anyone else want to talk about the BBC Sherlock? I am thinking of adding it to the NWR roster since Moffat is the exec producer on both but I am gauging interest on the topic.
So the Saints and the Texans move on to the next step. I have to say that I am seriously torn about today’s two games since I like all four teams. So yea to whoever wins today.
Caroline has been playing Moonfell Woods on my iPad. She has gotten pretty far in the whole thing. It just amazes me how she has gone in a few short years to having to have everything read to her to an independent reader with a pretty large vocabulary. She is good at puzzles and thinking things out.
Apparently Willpower is a real chemical thing that is within our bodies. (From today’s edition of the New York Times. They (scientists) recently reported that willpower is a real form of mental energy, powered by glucose in the bloodstream, which is used up as you exert self-control.) So when you run out of that energy, you run out of willpower. I am not sure how I feel about that but it does explain a lot of human behavior. Broad strokes seem to be the answer to the problem.
Basketball has been a bit of a farce.
I wonder if time management is tied to some sort of mental energy. It would explain so much.
I guess I should sign off for now. I am getting angry about something and really don’t want to bring my anger over here.
I am grateful for mental energy in all its forms.
