There was an off-Broadway musical called “Return to the Forbidden Planet” that I dearly love to this day. It loosely follows the plot of the Tempest and Forbidden Planet. At the point that everything is going nuts because of the unleashing of the invisible monster that is killing everyone, one of the characters screams,” Beware the Ids that March.” That play isn’t done often enough.
OK today is March 15th and it is really the Ides of March. Yesterday was Pi Day. I didn’t have any pie. In fact I didn’t have much of anything due to stomach issues for a second day. It was OK at the beginning of the day but the end of the day was not fun. So I am going to take it gently and meat free today since we are still in lent.
Caroline let Peter post her essay I talked about on his site. If you care to read it, you can find it here . We talked about it last night and she agreed that she was willing to share it with the world because of the fact that her potty training was discussed in Captain Marvel. Just so you know, all I did was correct some grammar the words were hers.
Today is a combination of things that involved quite a bit of driving. It needs to be done and it will be done.
Caroline has found a body spray that she likes which smells like a version of cotton candy. It doesn’t seem to be triggering any of my allergies which is a good thing.
I am trying to understand the rules for the World Baseball League. Is the USA out or still in if they can beat Puerto Rico? Either way we felt sorry for Dickey who threw a gem and the closer couldn’t close it which probably feels too normal for him.
We are tentatively going to be at SDCC this year. An opportunity showed up that I think might make it possible if all the pieces fall into place.
I get concerned when I read about concussions and then think about the number of blows I have taken to the head over the years. The only plus I have is that I had an MRI that showed things pretty much look normal as of 10 years ago.
I am grateful for Caroline’s ability to express herself.

What is it with people not moving a shopping cart about three car lengths to get it out of the way? I am getting sick of not being able to park without getting out of the car and moving a shopping cart or two or three. I take the time when I am done with a cart to move it out of the way of the parking lot either to the cart corral or back to the sidewalk.
I know it is a time honored tradition to jaywalk in NYC. But in a small town when the crosswalk is less than 20 feet behind you and the cars MUST stop, darting between cars assuming that everyone will slam on the brakes for your Michael Kors handbag is not the best idea especially when you are playing chicken with a Hummer that is slamming music so hard my truck is vibrating.
And I am not talking youngsters here but people my age and older. OK people my age that seem to have a sense of entitlement that boarders on the selfish. Or maybe I am just tired.
And yes I am tired. Nothing for it really. There is a lot to do around the house and there is a lot to do for my family. Right now it is either me or it doesn’t get done. Peter is healing and that is his job right now along with avoiding getting another stroke. Caroline is helping as much as she can but she has a lot on her plate too.
Caroline had to do a paper for her religion class. The topic was faith. She wrote about her faith in G-d and her father and how it was shaken with her father’s stroke but she continued to pray for her father and her faith that G-d would help her dad get better comforted her. She had some pretty complex concepts within her paper and an easy writing style that makes one want to read on. She has her daddy’s storytelling ability. I typed it up for her and managed not to cry too much.
Yesterday was a bust due to a GI bug that was not very nice to my lower GI area and my neck hurts from upchucking as well. Good thing I have my last PT session this morning.
I am grateful for what I CAN get done today but I am not beating myself up when I can’t get everything done.

I will never forget the Ides of March for the very simple reason of a practical joke a bunch of History seniors played on our senior seminar teacher. This teacher was well known for using ALL the chalkboards in his lectures. So we would write in rather big letters BEWARE THE IDES OF MARCH on one of the boards that was behind one of the siding chalkboards at the various classes he taught. Then on March 15th, we dressed up in bed sheets as togas, made masks out of paper plates and daggers made out of paper plates. We ran into his freshman history class “stabbed” him while screaming death to tyrants and various lines from Julius Caesar by Shakespeare and then we ran out. He knew who did it and at the next senior seminar we got an earful about our stupid stunt which had totally interrupted his class and a grudging congratulations for pulling it off.
This day finds Peter going back into the city for business. Caroline will be off to school to learn. And I am dealing with cat boxes and other bits of housework that need to be done along with possibility some yard work if the weather stays nice.
(My mother pointed out that my time sense is a little off these days)
I am grateful for all I can get done in a quiet house before it gets back its people.

For some reason I have the Doofenshmirtz Evil Incorporated jingle stuck in my head. And it isn’t very long and it is looping. But I have the variations as well so at least it is not the same song.
Caroline has to write an essay about faith for her religious class. She has been writing about her father’s stroke and her faith. I promised to type it up for her. I have a feeling there are going to be some tears in my eyes considering what I have read so far.
World Baseball is turning out to be more interesting than I thought I would find it. There have been some good games and some really good games with a couple of blowouts in between.
Peter is continuing to improve. It is slower that when he was at the rehab but the evidence of improvement continues. They ran him through a battery of tests since he has been in out patient rehab for about a month now. His balance is much better. His hand is showing signed of strengthening and more dexterity. Nothing is back to normal yet but we still continue to move that direction.
This past weekend was a lot of driving. The next weekend is going to be a lot of driving but it is necessary. I am quite proud that I drove in New York City without a total panic attack. Not my favorite place to drive.
We are working on Caroline’s science project. We have both learned more about cat behavior and instinct verse training than I think either of us wanted to know. I do know a lot more about what to look for with the old cats and their health and behavior. Still haven’t gotten Fig to jump rope.
I am grateful for the tricks that Fig has learned.

Ariel and Caroline went to see Annie. Caroline has wanted to see that play since Ariel told her about Ariel and Peter being in the play. The fact that I ran the sound board for the show was not in the story but I did.
Ariel managed to work some David Magic totally on her own with her own connections and got them back stage where they got a tour of the back stage. Then Caroline got to meet the animal trainer for Sandy and the doggies who are currently playing Sandy. All the dogs that they use are rescues. One was practically on the table when it was rescued. Now these dogs are living the life. Their dressing room is one of the bigger ones at that theater.
Caroline was so happy with the whole experience. She had never heard the soundtrack or seen the movie so she went in with minimal information. We gave her some of the background on the Depression, the New Deal and who FDR is. She had some idea because of her social studies course. She liked the show over all and enjoyed the music as well.

(For the VI: This is a picture of Caroline, Ariel and two of the dogs that play Sandy in the musical Annie. Caroline, one of the dogs, and Ariel are seated on a couch with another dog sitting in front of them. Behind them are two posters. The one on the left is for the book “Broadway Tails: Heartfelt Stories of Rescued Dogs Who Became Showbiz Superstars” and on the right is a poster for the current production of Annie.)
This weekend we also saw “OZ: The Great and Powerful” in 2-D and watched this weeks installment of “Once Upon a Time”.
OZ is a film I am on the fence on about the 3-D. This had some things in 2-D that I know would be kicking in 3-D.
Overall I enjoyed it. I liked the nods to both the books and the movie. The cast was solid and the effects were nice but not over powering. More on it behind the cut and I will allow for spoilers in the comments so you have been warned. There are a couple of scary moments for the younger set but everything turns out OK for our heroes. No swearing or sex, which is nice. Implied dalliances only.
We have been watching “Once Upon a Time” since it started last year. The premise interested us when we read about it. We had enjoyed Jennifer Morrison’s performance on House. The show rapidly became must see TV for us. The writing was slick and the characters interesting. It didn’t take long to get use to the format of bouncing between the characters in Storybrook and back in Fairytale land. Again spoilers for the second season behind the cut and spoilers allowed in the comments
