I like the Quiet

Posted By on January 17, 2016

As in not coughing. The time between coughing fits is getting longer and longer but the fits themselves are painful. My throat is starting to heal. My tongue looks like a war zone but it is slowly getting better. Eating is an adventure because it hurts to eat so liquids and smooth things are my favorite now. So I am getting over this crud but it is taking a long time to do so.

I like quiet in general. There are times that no noise helps me sort things out. But there are other times that I need some form of noise to collect my thoughts. I find when I am building puppets I tend to marathon a tv show or movies. When I write fiction I listen to music. Web logging I like to have quiet to assemble my thoughts but I can work with the noise of the house if I need to.

The end of the Packers/Cardinals game was exciting. The Packers could have had it but the Cardinals won the coin toss and drove their way down the field to a touchdown and the win. The Patriots won and I knew they were going to after the half. Kansas City just couldn’t get it together.

Baseball is on the horizon. I am looking forward to getting back to watching baseball. I just hope the Mets haven’t screwed themselves with their lack of trades and trying to hang onto personnel.

I am looking forward to getting back to the gym this week. I haven’t been able to due to illness and I am itching to get back. I just have to remember not to push it too hard at the beginning so I don’t hurt myself.

Thank you to my sister Sheila for pointing me to where the word “adulting” originated. It is from a website called Adulting. It is a pretty interesting website with solid advice. I honestly feel better now for knowing.

So little steps heading back to health. The longer I don’t have to take cough medicine or a decongestant, the happier I am.

I am grateful for each breath without coughing.

Breathing without Wheezing

Is a lovely thing. This morning for the first time in about two weeks, I took in a breath and didn’t hear/feel a rattle in my chest. I am on the mend. I also made it almost an hour before coughing and I am breathing through my nose rather than my mouth. To top it off, I haven’t had any cough syrup since yesterday evening.

Which means I now have to start catching up on everything that I have let slide since I became ill.

I feel like I am starting the year behind already and we are only a little over two weeks into it. If this is the beginning of the year, can we have a do-over?

I guess I’ll start at point A and work my way through the list.

When did adult stop being a noun? Did I miss a meeting? I have been seeing more the phrase “I was so good at adulting today that I rewarded myself with a bottle of wine.” Adulting?

I have been rereading Dr. Strange with the Essential Doctor Strange very large graphic novels. Whoever put them together did a good job of putting all the pieces together because Doctor Strange’ story was spread through the Marvel comic universe for a while before he got his own book back. It is also interesting seeing the pencil/inkwork in just black and white. I have gaining a greater appreciation for some artists work.

I have also been reading the newest series and it has my attention. Interesting stories and some concepts about the character I hadn’t really thought about. Art work is just as trippy as the classic Ditko work or maybe that’s the cough meds at work.

I am grateful for being able to breath without coughing.

Never Give Up Never Surrender

The phrase is fresh in my head due to our watching Galaxy Quest yesterday. That film holds up so well to multiple viewings.

The state of the Kath is that I am feeling better. I seem to be doing better in the morning than I am in the afternoon and evening. I am able, finally, to get some solid sleep at night, which makes it easier to get up in the morning. The number of cough drops and hard candy I am going through is slowly reducing as is the round the clock doses of cough medicine. I woke up this morning and was breathing through my nose rather than my mouth and do not feel that congested. A big change even from yesterday. I have gone 30 minutes without coughing which, of course, the second I typed that I had to cough.

That means I can do some stuff but need not to push it. Last thing I need is a relapse with this. Peter has been taken care of the day to day along with Caroline. However we are in need of groceries and the cats need cat food and kitty litter. I think I am going to use what energy I have getting the larder restocked.

This weekend should be quiet. I am giving some thought to go see the Joshua Show in Manhattan but given my health, I might have to wait until he comes back around again.

I figure if I hunker down over the weekend, I will be pretty much back to normal on Monday.

All I know right now is that I am very grateful not to be coughing and I’d like to keep it that way.

RIP Alan Rickman

Coming on the heels of David Bowie, this is sad enough. Mr. Rickman was also 69 and also died of cancer.

The first time I ever saw Alan Rickman was on stage. He was playing Valmont in Liaisons Dangereuses. He was mesmerizing to watch. I walked out knowing I had seen a performance I would never forget.

Later the rest of America ‘met’ him as Hans Gruber in Die Hard and a career was launched.

The last time I saw him on stage was in Seminar. He said some line about writers that I was the only one laughing at because you would only really get the joke if you were a writer or wife of a writer. He looked right at me and nodded with a slight smile. He knew I got the joke.

In between those times I saw him in a lot of films and enjoyed each and every performance from those that scared the every loving out of me to those that made me cry to those that made me laugh. I think Galaxy Quest is one of my favorite of his performances.

We talk about actor’s actors and I place him firmly in that category. I learned about acting from just watching his performance. And other actors that he worked with said the same.

There was not much known about his personal life and he made sure to keep it that way. He married Rima Horton in 2012 however they had been together since the 1970s. We know from his friends that he was loyal to the end and was there when they needed him. Sounds like the kind of guy you would want to have dinner with.

My sympathies to his family and friends.

I am grateful that I did get to see Rickman on stage because if you thought he was good on film, he was even better in person.

Ah Winter there you are

I was wondering when winter would really be here. Answer would be today.

Didn’t get any of the predicted snow/rain/sleet this morning. Just a clear, cold day with a light blue sky.

In the health department, as in mine, finally had a night’s sleep that wasn’t broken up coughing. Of course the moment I typed this I started coughing again but still better than yesterday. No fever for twenty-four hours so that’s a start. I’ll say on the mend but not much more than that. I do feel more aware than I have in about a week.

Today is a catch-up day from what has been sliding for about a week now. Peter and Caroline have been aces about taking care of what had to be taken care of. Peter has been making lunch and dinner for all of us. Garbage went out. Recycling was taken care of. Cats have been fed and litter boxes cleaned up. So we are clean but not tidy.

I am going to take it a little slow because I don’t want to end up back in bed again. I’ll take my small victories where I can.

I am grateful for the sleep I got last night.
