My taste in tea has changed over the years. How I drink it has as well. If you served me tea the way I liked it back in my 20s, I would drink it politely but it wouldn’t taste right to me anymore.

I can say the same thing about my likes in various forms of entertainment. Things that I was obsessed with when I was younger, really don’t matter as much to me. Although there are a few constants in the mix that haven’t changed.

I know that everything I like is not going to be to Peter’s liking. And there are shows that he likes, that I really don’t care for. Same goes for Caroline. I do know what my child is watching because I watch along with her and I have told her that she would not be watching certain shows due to content I didn’t feel was appropriate. I also informed her that I really didn’t care what other parents were allowing their kids to see, she’s my kid so my rules.

I have a friend who really doesn’t like certain forms of the undead. I understand this and have never recommended certain shows I like to her because I know she would find the subject material uncomfortable. There are other shows and the like that we do have in common and we talk about those. I respect her wishes on the topic.

I know people who don’t care for Star Wars at all. Saw the films when they came out but never saw them or wanted to see them again. They don’t resent anyone who does want to watch them over and over. However I have heard conversations where others try to convince them that they really should like Star Wars and how they are bad fans because they don’t. You can fill in the blank for Star Wars because I have heard this conversation more than once.

You don’t have to like everything. Your tastes can change over time. You should not feel less of a fan because you don’t care for the current hot topic.

Personally I don’t care for zombies with one exception being I, Zombie. I have seen movies about Zombies and TV shows about Zombies but I really can’t get into the genre. And people have tried to convince me that Zombies are the greatest thing since sliced bread. Just not my cuppa. Slasher films are another form of entertainment that I don’t like. I like my horror more psychological than visceral. I think some of the best horror films are the Roger Corman Poe series and Hitchcock. I also like some of the Hammer films as well. But Freddy vs. Jason leaves me cold. I don’t care for Friday the 13th or Nightmare on Elm Street or Halloween or Scream. Again not my cuppa however there is nothing wrong if it is your cuppa. Just don’t try to convince me that this should be my cuppa or I am not a real fan.

I like what I like and you like what you like and that you don’t care for things I care for is not a bad thing. I don’t think less of you because you don’t watch or read something I like. I don’t expect everyone to have the same tastes as me.

I am grateful for the diversity in fandom.

First, however, Caroline is selling Girl Scout cookies and this year her troop is part of digital cookie, which allows people to buy cookies and the money goes to her troop. Yes, we know it says Cortney rather than Caroline. They are working on that.

Caroline is back in school. The mail delivery was late but we got mail yesterday. They did a garbage pick up for everyone who made it possible to get to their garbage cans.

The roads are passable but not great. There are sections that still have a layer of ice and snow on them making it difficult to drive on but not impossible. I gave Caroline a rare ride to school this morning since a number of people decided that clearing their walks wasn’t important and I didn’t want her walking to school in the very narrow streets.

The plan for the day is to stick close to the homestead. The only thing I have to do is get a gallon of milk since we are almost out.

The temperature is going to be above freezing all day so the snow is going to be melting and it doesn’t look like we are going back to freezing for a couple of days so this could all be gone in a week.

I am grateful for melting that doesn’t flood.

We are dug out thanks to our neighbors on both sides who helped us with their snow blowers so we can get out of the driveway and are compliant with the village regulations of sidewalks. Also the mail will be delivered because the mail carrier can safely get to the mailbox.

Not so happy with the village/county snow removal team or their agents. Actually, I am betting it was a contractor rather than the village guys who has piled snow at the end of our driveway and scraped the street. The village plows know how to deal with this street. So I do have to dig out the end of the driveway but I am OK with that considering what I would have to have dealt with if our neighbors hadn’t come to our rescue.

Caroline does not have school today due to the fact that the buses cannot reach all the students on their routes yet. I have heard from some friends that not all the roads were reached yesterday so they need today to finish getting the streets dug out. I am glad that we are giving everyone another day to deal with the fall out from the storm.

Now if the house down the block will shovel out so Caroline doesn’t have to walk in the street to get to school, I will be happy. If they try the same stunt they did last year, I know that myself and several other parents will be calling the village a lot sooner to get this dealt with. The homeowner was put on notice last year so the village will act faster.

I have gotten Peter to watch a football game, which is a big deal. He became interested in the Broncos vs. Patriots game because of Around the Horn and some articles in the local papers. So we watched the game. Glad to see the Broncos win. And glad to the see the Panthers win. So Broncos vs. the Panthers which will probably be Peyton’s last game if rumors are to be believed. I am glad that Cam Newton finally got his act together.

So today is going to be more stuff around the house. Going out doesn’t seem like a spiffy idea today. We have enough milk for another day or so.

Oh and I have jury duty this week. I am hoping because I have a highly absurd number that I will not be called but nothing is certain in this so every day for the next week I check and see if my number is up.

So that’s my day. Hope yours is comfortable.

I am grateful for our neighbors who helped us dig out from the three to five foot drifts that were impeding movement anywhere.

That was a lot of snow in a very short time period. The drifts are amazing. There is some lovely natural art created by the wind.

The official total is 26.4 inches. However the wind pushed that around so some spots on our lawn have nothing or little and others have over 3 feet of snow and there is one 5-foot drift in the back.

Right now the only thing I dug out was the front porch and the steps so I could salt them to let them dry out so they are safe to walk on. And that’s as far as I got due to the massive amount of snow I had to shovel to get that far, being from the basement door to the steps.

We do have much warmer weather on the horizon so this will melt. We just have to get to that point and hope that the storm drains can handle it.

I am grateful that it isn’t deeper.

Looking out the window in our front room, I can see the snow falling or rather blowing across our lawn. It is snowing sideways. To top that off, there is a lot of coast flooding due to the wind and the full moon. There have been times this morning that I haven’t been able to see the houses across the street. We are in the middle of a blizzard. The rate of snow is from 1 to 4 inches an hour depending on the band that is overhead at the time.

Due to the storm moving slightly north, we are getting it in the teeth. They are saying that 24-30 is not out of the realm of possibility and they are giving us 20 as the low end of the accumulation for the day.

This is supposes to go on until 4 AM tomorrow. Then we have a sunny day to dig out before Caroline has school on Monday.

At the beginning of the week the forecast was saying 5-8 but probably less. Then the numbers started creeping up as the week went on. Yesterday the warning came that this was going to probably be a bad one. Woke up this morning to the news that where we live is probably going to get it the worst.

There is nothing we can do but ride the storm out and dig out once it has all stopped.

We have food for if the electricity stays on and food if it goes out. The heat will be fine since it is oil heat and it is possible to just turn it on if the power goes out. All the electronics are being charged so they can last us a bit if the power goes out and we do have a generator that will give us an outlet or so if needed.

Caroline and I are going to work on her sew machine abilities and make some doll clothes today. I’ll get some work done on some puppets and the laundry finished. And tonight for dinner, I am making chili.
