Marriage is what brings us together

Posted By on June 26, 2016

A year ago we got the news that the Supreme Court said again that separate but equal doesn’t work and there was no gay marriage and straight marriage but marriage. A year later civilization still is standing and the institution of marriage is doing as well as it was a year and a day ago.

I have gone to a couple of weddings in the past year and had a number of friends get married. I had two friends who had been together for a very long time but they wouldn’t tie the knot until her gay brother could do the same if he wanted to. They did the deed about 6 months ago after about 20 years of planning. The brother is still single but dating someone that looks to be serious.

Nothing changed in our marriage contract when our friends finally had their marriage recognized by the federal government or they got married in the state that had told them they couldn’t.

Not that there haven’t been bumps along the road including people taking the law into their own hands or coming up with some pretty lame excuses as to why they couldn’t issue a license. Some states tried some legal tricks but got smacked down pretty hard so we have less of those shenanigans.

Recently things have calmed down as people see that life really hasn’t changed that much except some merchants now have more people buying goods and products from them.

I am grateful for this ruling and all that followed for my friends.

The Face in the Jar

Posted By on June 25, 2016

Believe it or not, and I know some of you are going to go for not, I am a shy person. I have learned over the years how to be an extrovert in an introvert’s body. Not an easy thing to do but I can do it and quite well.

Peter and I joke about the two Peter’s that exist in his body. There is his public face and his private face. I have the privilege of seeing both.

And I do the same thing. My public face is pretty much my private face with the exception that I monitor my mouth more in public and think before I speak of what impact what I might be saying or typing might effect others. I am honest in all things which freaks some people out.

I also hate talking on the phone and much rather text or email.

We are about to embark on the second part of Convention season shortly. I will be with Peter and Caroline talking to friends and fans about various topics. I am on some panels at several of these conventions. I will speak on topics that I have knowledge and hold my own if a debate occurs.

I have learned the art of public speaking overtime. It did not come naturally to me. I use to be terrified of speaking in front of a group but by just having to do it, I have gotten over my anxiety and now am fine. I have been informed by some that they are jealous of the easy way I speak in public but they don’t know how hard fought it was to get to that point.

I know I put on a good face even when I am in my pit of despair. There are a handful of people who can tell what is really going on with me but they have known me for a very long time so they know my tells. Apparently my eyes give me away. They do say that the eyes are the windows to the soul.

Right now things are a little out of balanced and I am trying to get myself back to my center. However life seems to be taking delight in kicking me rather hard both mentally and physically. So my chant has been ‘this too shall pass’ and hoping that I am right. Going to the gym helps. Getting things done helps. Figuring out a story or puppet helps too. Listing out what I HAVE gotten done rather than what I haven’t can help because it shows me that I am still moving forward even thought I feel like I am stuck.

I will continue to work towards coming out of this episode so I can have fun again doing things I enjoy doing.

I am grateful for the things that keep me going.

RTBTCKI Meh

The other day Caroline was asked her opinion of something and she replied, “Meh.” I asked her if she knew where that word/sound had come from. She shrugged and I informed her that it was first used in the Simpsons episode entitled Sideshow Bob Roberts back in 1994 so it has over twenty years of use. I think that the Internet kept the word/sound going.

We had two adjustors come by and take notes and make notes and everything else so now we wait and see what happened next with the mold in the house.

The Braves have the Mets number and last night was a fine example of that.

The NBA draft was last night and the sports pundits had plenty to say about the matter. Lot of small forwards going in the first round. Nothing that leaps out at me as the greatest pick/trade ever. Kind of lackluster over all.

We have been playing a lot of Clue(do) recently. Versions we have are Classic, Big Band Theory, Dr. Who, and Sherlock. The dice seem to be determining who wins because we are good as sussing out the who and the what but the where takes sometime to get to. Hasbro has done a good job of marketing this game to fandom.

Today I am having lunch with an old friend. It should be a nice get together.

CBS and Paramount did what I have been expecting for a while now. They said what a fan film could be and not find their lawyers knocking on the door. The restrictions are many and I know a number of people who aren’t happy with this outcome. You can read the new rules here. The limitations on budget and personal seems a little over the top to me and how any moneys can be raised because they are taking away the ability of the filmmakers to make it interesting for the participants by removing incentives.

After burning my right index finger with a hot pan due to tremors, working out at the gym was an adventure as I could not, even with my gloves on, get a good grip on some of the things I do. I did what I could and was glad that my back did not issue any objections.

Rereading my way through the original short stories of Sherlock Holmes. Going to read the longer ones after I finish this round.

I am grateful for our ever changing language.

Welp, that’s not a day I am going to get back

Short version is that we had a pipe break that had, apparently, been leaking for a while before it broke in a storage space above a closet in the Living Room that we never go into. And because it had been a slow leak we didn’t know about, we now have mold to the point that the plumber can’t fix it until we get rid of the mold. Calls are into the insurance company and adjustors are coming today and then we see exactly how screwed we are but we are pretty screwed.

Needless to say I didn’t get much done except deal with the fallout from this information.

Today I am going back to the gym. I think my back is at a point that I can pick things back up but I do plan on being careful. I need this really bad.

The rest of the day is a crap shoot since it all depends on what other people say and I really don’t like to not be control of my time.

I applaud Congressman John Lewis for taking a stand and holding a good ol’ fashion sit-in to protest the lack of voting on various bills that all they want is an up or down vote. They are still going using people’s cell phones to make sure we can see what is going on in the House chamber. I met Congressman Lewis at this past DragonCON. He, Caroline, Michael Bond, and Nichelle Nichols talked about civil rights then and now. Caroline was complimented on her political acumen.

We have CSPAN on and are watching.

I am grateful on forward movement to take care of the problem.

I have nothing to say

Just putting this here to keep the web log going.

If we didn’t have bad luck, we would have no luck at all and right now it is an avalanche of one thing after another that has finally got to me.

Peter and I are fine and secure in our relationship. Our health is fine. The girls are fine. So that I am grateful for but everything else is up for grabs.

I am done.
