Happy 60th Birthday to my Husband Peter David

Posted By on September 23, 2016

Today is the beginning of Peter’s 60th year on the planet.

We are celebrating it in various ways including going to the New York Ren Faire tomorrow early in the day.

I gave him a scrapbook with photos, cards, notes and art that I have been working on assembling for him for a while now. He really liked it. He also got a copy of IT from Stephen King. Thanks to my friend Rob, I got him a copy of the skull mask that Daniel Craig wore in Specter. He was touched at the out pouring of love both here and on the Internet.

I love my husband very much. I don’t hide that at all.

I had someone say it must be pretty cool to be married to Peter David and I said no it’s very cool to be married to Peter David.

He has taken us on so many adventures all over the world. Caroline has petted cats on three continents. We have spent time in Middle Earth and on the TARDIS. We have shook hands with a number of actors who have played the same character. We have had dinner with interesting people with interesting stories to tell. We are part of several Scooby Gangs.

He is such a Dad. He is there for his girls. If he can help, he will. His daughters know that they are loved by their father. Now he has added the title of Grandfather and adores his grandsons AJ and Orson.

I knew Peter as a writer that I enjoyed reading before we actually met at one of the last Atlanta Fantasy Fairs. His name was a guarantee for a good read to me.

Since then I have been able to read a lot of things before anyone else. He had used me as a sounding board and first reader and trusts what I saw about his writing. He helps me with my writing as well which I appreciate.

We have the same sort of quirky sense of humor. I promised Andreas Katsulas , before Peter and I got married, that Peter made me laugh and I tried to do the same for him. We still crack each other up. The number of in jokes in the household is amazing.

He makes me feel loved and treasured. I hope I do the same for him. He reminds me of my worth and I remind him of his.

Today I celebrate my husband’s life. He is every bit as awesome as you think he is and so much more.

I am grateful that Peter is in my life and I am in his.

RTBTCKI International Day of Peace 2016

Posted By on September 21, 2016

World Peace Day or International of Peace was established by the United Nations in 1982. The purpose is to try to create world peace and an absence of war and violence on this planet. Lofty ideals, but worth perusing. There have been declared ceasefires on this day allowing aid workers to help in some of the worst war torn areas and maybe lead to a more lasting peace. I wish everyone working on this much luck.

It’s pretty peaceful here. Caroline is off to school and Peter is upstairs trying to get some sleep having contracted a rather virulent cold which is making sleep a bit illusive. So it is the cats and me and they aren’t fighting right now.

When I got up this morning I was pleased that my knee was just a twinge painful and it was not hard to walk this morning. Hoping it continues this trend.

I did get the tooth fixed yesterday. I am fortunate that my dentist is also a fan. We ‘talked’ about Star Trek, Dr. Who, and Babylon 5. I now have a temporary cap and will have a more permanent one down the road. Still feels weird and my jaw hurts a little where he put the post but I have my teeth so I am happy with that.

I am hoping that Peter feels better by Friday. It stinks to be sick on one’s birthday esp. when it is one of the milestone birthdays.

I have some errands to run and then I have a project that I need to continue to work on.

Mets are in a three way tie for the WildCard in the national league. They are going to take this one down to the wire.

I don’t think anyone is dying in Westeros this week since both the Giants and Jets won.

Trying to get some stuff set up for NYCC so far I have just hit some walls so I am trying another way around it. It will happen or it will not happen. I am not holding my breath.

I am grateful for all the metaphorical backdoors I can use to get something to someone.

Crafty Tuesday Chipped Tooth and Split Lip

Posted By on September 20, 2016

I have to pretty much scrap most of what I was going to do today because last night my front right tooth shattered and now it is cutting my lip and my tongue because of the jagged edge. I have put a grind guard in to move my lip slightly away from the tooth. So that’s pretty much my day today.

And this sort of thing happens all the time. The phrase “life happens when you make plans” comes to mind as does JRR Tolkien’s wisdom from the Hobbit, “It does not do to leave a live dragon out of your calculations, if you live near him.”

A friend was talking about a doll seminar that she attended and how much she loved going to those sort of activities because when she got home, she had plenty of ideas and new things that she learned that she wanted to try but finding the time was difficult if not impossible due to her normal life of husband, two kids, and three dogs. So she treasured her time away being able to just create.

Oh one can say that they are setting time aside for whatever they want to do but then things happen and that time vanishes like wisps of smoke in the autumn air.

Right now I will take what time I can get to be creative. We are almost back into our school groove. There are a couple of things that still need to get in place for the whole thing to be back.

I honestly should just start some project and let it move forward until I have completed it. Or finish another, I haven’t quite decided yet.

Finding time to be creative may be difficult. Stealing a few precious hours to not worry about anything else other than the project in front of you can be tricky but if you want to get things done, it is a necessity.

My goal before the next DragonCon is to have things done way before the convention so by the time I get to August I am pretty much done. Now I have to make that goal a reality.

So I am going to plot and plan the next 12 months and make some time that will not turn into having to deal with other things unless life happens and then everything is off the table again.

But first I have to get this tooth attended to as it is driving me up a tree.

I am grateful that I have dental insurance.

RTBTCKI Florida Rain on Long Island

Posted By on September 19, 2016

In the south there is a weather pattern where it will rain like there is no tomorrow for a short period of time then the skies will clear up and the rain will stop then the clouds move in and it happens all over again. That has been this morning out here on Long Island.

This is one of those mornings that I am glad I don’t work in the city. Considering all that has happened over the past couple of days, I wish my fellow commuters all the best. They have found pipe bombs and people planning to do more damage but were caught before they could act. I am worried about all my friends and family that live and work in the five boroughs. This isn’t over yet and that’s very scary. Maybe the rain will slow them down.

I don’t think I am going to be going anywhere today. I need to check the basement after this rain moves out.

Peter arrived at 7:15 this morning which for him was 4:15 and he had a yappy dog under the seat next to him so he is asleep right now.

Ren Faire plans for those who are contemplating going. We are going early in the day because it just works out better for us. Probably be there through lunch. I have promised we will not sing Happy Birthday to him.

Last call for Birthday Cards for Peter PO Box 951 Bayport NY 11705.

So the Jets and the Giants and the Mets won yesterday. The Giants game was a bit of a nail biter. I wasn’t sure of their strategy but a win is a win.

Man this rain is going on longer than I would have thought. I am worried about flooding now.

I think I need to do something creative today. Yesterday was about putting away the rest of DragonCon. Today needs to be about creating something new.

I also need to sort some stuff out as to when we are doing what for the rest of the year. Hard to believe that we are rapidly heading for the end of the year but there it is.

I am grateful that Peter got home safely.

2016 is starting to fell like a very long car crash

And it has taken out one more person I know. Clay or C. Martin Croker if you are looking him up on IMDB passed away yesterday. We don’t know all the details and his family has asked for some time to collect themselves. I met him at some convention down in Atlanta were a mutual friend introduced us to each other. He knew I was a puppeteer and I knew he was an animator and voice actor who had been instrumental in the creation of Adult Swim. We were, at best, convention buddies who might chat for a few between fans or wave at each other in passing. Now there is going to be a serious Clay sized hole in a number of conventions. He was great with the fans and a really nice guy to me. He will be missed by many. My sympathies to his family and friends.

Edward Albee passed away as well. I had friends who had worked with him or took classes from him. The first words that always seem to come up about him were that he was a character. I liked how he looked at the American experience and gave us a fun house mirror to look at ourselves. He was instrumental in other playwrights getting a chance to get their work out there to be seen.

This is a year that I am noticing more the Icons we are losing as well as the closer friends and family and extended family. I am trying to figure out if just more people that were in my sphere are dying this year or I am just noticing it more. 2016 has not been good in that department either way.

There was an explosion in Manhattan last night near a diner that I have had lunch at with friends off and on for almost 20 years now. I also have some friends who live in the general area. Everyone has checked it and is fine. No one I know was near where the incident occurred. The second device that didn’t go off happened to be near a friend’s apartment but they are out of the country right now and the neighbors kept them up to speed as to what was going on. Of course the minute this happened, speculation of why and who started. We really don’t know anything about the whys and might never know. Someone suggested it might be a construction dispute considering where the devices were. I would be fine with that. Not with the explosion but with that reason because then the word terrorist isn’t being used constantly.

Yesterday we had a flat tire after running some errands. Apparently the valve cap broke off leaving the valve open and thus we had one very flat tire. I figured it out pretty quick and pulled into another part of the parking lot which the mechanic praised me for being so sensible since all he had to do was re-inflate the tire, check it, check the valve and send us on our way. I haven’t checked it this morning but I am almost scared to. Thank goodness for AAA, which had proved its worth again.

Today Caroline and I are going to sort something out that we have needed to do so for a while. This is both physically and mentally. I have a feeling that a list is going to play a part here along with a calendar so I can see where I really am in the year and what I have left going on.

Weather is iffy. The forecast is for rain off and on for the next couple of days. I guess I will dodge the raindrops.

Off to really get the day started.

I am grateful for Caroline’s independent spirit.
