RTBTCKI Cranking July up to 11

Posted By on June 30, 2018

July is a busy month because we have three conventions, one Broadway Show, one movie screening, and a week’s vacation along with some activities with friends planned.

August is looking crowded too as is September.

I think we come back up for air in October but I could be wrong.

The Mets either can’t pitch or can’t hit. The only time they got everything working was at the beginning of the season and this year you cannot blame injury for their poor showing.

Braves are doing pretty well but it is after the all star break that we really see what happens.

It is bad that I really don’t care where LeBron James goes just not to the Knicks?

My prediction is that Tom Brady is going to have a career ending injury this year. His çøçk-sure attitude is going to get him hurt.

Peter is in LA helping Susan and meeting with other friends of Harlan and his. He’ll be home tomorrow morning in time to go into the city to see Beautiful.

I saw a new set of covers for the Harry Potter books that link up to make a big piece of art. Interesting but I have no need to get another set of Harry Potter books.

We have too many boxes in the house because we are going to three conventions in a month. I hope to come home with no boxes to deal with.

I think with the heat Caroline and I will be home bodies today. Even with the breeze off the water, it is still oppressively hot and it is not even 9 am.

So the plan for the day is to get the living room back to zero. Mewlan has a bad habit of trying to turn sewing materials into cat toys so I need to make sure she can’t while we are gone.

That and laundry.

I am grateful for whatever we get done today.

Harlan

This is going to be a long one so I am putting a chunk of it after a cut unless you clicked on a link and then I would have you know that it will be a long one.

The universe is quieter today because there is a Harlan Ellison sized hole in it.

Just to get it out of the way it would be ‘“Repent Harlequin!” said the Tick Tock Man’ followed by “When Jeffty was Five”.

Yesterday afternoon we received a phone call that we have been expecting and dreading for a while. It was Susan Ellison informing Peter that Harlan had passed away in his sleep.

Today Peter is on a plane headed out to see Susan and help however he can.

Since that call, I have been thinking a lot about my friend who was a living legend.

Take a moment for yourself

One thing that has come out of my magical mystery tour of my health is that I have been informed that I need to avoid stress. This has lead to guffaws of laughter from many quarters.

Many of us have been in a crouched defensive position for so long I don’t think we know how to stand up.

There has been not great news on an international front or the country or the local area.

It seems just when I can take a real breath something else takes that breath away.

But now I have to make a conscious to take the time for me. Time to relax and regroup.

And that is not a selfish thing to do. It is self-preservation.

We have this idea that if we take time for ourselves before our long list of things we must and should do it done, that we are doing something wrong.

I believe that we need to change our thinking on that.

My gym time is my time but it cannot be my only time that is for me.

Multi-tasking is a bit of a myth. We have been informed that the only way to get through life is do as much as possible in the time we have allotted. Eventually we will get to retirement and then be able to do what we want to do.

Might have worked in the past but the model of working for one company and accruing a pension is no longer part of the American workforce norm.

Retirement is not something that I think I am going to have nor is Peter. Sure we have unusual career paths but the more people I talk to my age or even older, the more I hear that they are not retiring, if they can, until they are in their 70s. They can’t afford to.

So the time to enjoy life is in the now. Not as some promise down the road.

And one can be a responsible adult while still enjoying the world around them.

Take the time to do something that you want to do. Really want to do. Plan it out and make it yours. It is why we have hobbies and passions for things outside our stress bubble.

And don’t stress if it doesn’t seem productive. It is for you not anyone else. If it is playing a game or reading a book or writing a book or painting something or building something, it is your time and your activity.

Revisit your favorite episode of a TV show you love or reread a book that has great meaning to you. See a movie. Turn your phone off for an hour or so. Turn off the Internet.

Give yourself permission to just be in the moment.

I think we all need this.

I am grateful for the help I am given to de-stress.

Crafty Tuesday Re-Think and Re-Plan

OK this month has not gone the way I would like it to go for many reasons. I have been dealing with some health issues (nothing catastrophic just annoying) and there has been LIFE to deal with. Also a bout of serious depression that I seem to be turning the corner on and, sadly, part of my feeling better is that I am not worried about Caroline getting shot at school since it is summer break.

Thus not as much done for DragonCon as I would like but it is not impossible just very improbable that I can get this all done.

So it is time for a re-think as to what is possible within the time frame that I have considering the parameters I have to work in.

My theme for the DragonCon art show is Memes as Art. I am taking various Internet memes especially the fandom ones and turning them into 3-D art. This will be fun to build and figure out how I will be doing parts of the project.

My puppet show involves a bunch of Strange Things that I am currently figuring out what the minimum is for each puppet to get my idea across. Also I just found out that Pearl Mackie is going to be at DragonCon so I think I feel a puppet in the works.

I am going to use my vacation time to write and get things in order so when I get back I can just look at the list and DO.

I am grateful for all I can get done before July 1st.

Basic Human Decency

OK this one is going to behind the cut because this one is political and can be trigger for some.

It is rare that I talk politics. If you know me personally, you know where I stand politically on things. Same for Religion because these are not things that I talk about much.

I am the mother of a 15-year-old girl who is taking her last exam as a freshman today and walks out as a wise fool (Sophomore). There are mothers and fathers who right now have no idea where their 15-year-old son or daughter are or if they will ever see them again. And that is not OK in any language or place on this planet.
