New Who Review for Flatline

Still cogitating on this one.

I liked it and I think I understand what was going on but I am still a little unsure.

The effects were nice and creepy. Bonus point for the Addams Family shout out that might not have been but I see it that way.

I am assuming that the title is a take off on Flatland, which is an interesting story about how we look at things … which this episode was sort of.

And we are back to the rules of the Doctor that never made an sense anyway. Let’s just throw that book out already.

I still like the Doctor Donna better than the Doctor Clara.

I thought that the use of the reducing TARDIS was well done.

The solution worked and that they have the skills needed was set up nicely.

Why did the shape of the TARDIS look like the Pandorica? Or is that just me?

The Doctor threatening the aliens was well done. I didn’t think it was too over done but I am apparently in the minority.

Overall scary episode that felt like any Doctor could have tackled the problem and probably come to the same conclusion.

The Doctor’s speech to the Boneless was a bit over the top, but I agree that it wasn’t overdone, or maybe that it needed to be overdone. That speech accomplishes two goals. It informs the boneless that the Earth and pretty much the entirety of 3D space is under his personal protection. Secondly, the speech is part of the Doctor trying to be merciful. It and the ease with which he dispatches them once the Tardis is up and running, combine to make hm a memorable, terrifying figure. He’s planting the seeds for the dissenting opinion the next time an invasion of 3D space is proposed. A dramatic over to top display now, makes it less likely he’ll have get medieval on the next invasion as it might not happen.

We’re not going to see it and I doubt it will every be mentioned but I suspect that the Tardis is going to be spending a little time sitting on the rift in Cardiff for re-fueling as te Doctor makes sure that the dimensional draining effect of the Boneless will never work against the Tardis again.

Kath, I’m willing to bet that a scene gave you an idea for a hand puppet. Me, it had me in stitches, almost rolling on the floor. All in all, a perfect episode. And the plot thinckens with Missy.
