Well That was Fun!

Posted By on May 28, 2013

And not said sarcastically either. We all genuinely had a blast at Phoenix Comic Con.

We saw old friends and managed to have a meal with some of them. We made new friends. And we had a lot of people come and tell us how much Peter meant to them. Peter appreciated each and every person that did that.

We were well taken care of. The convention gave us a two-floor suite since it was our 12th Wedding Anniversary, which was very nice. Caroline had her own space and her own bathroom. We had a Jacuzzi in our bathroom. We had a lovely living room/dining area and a kick-ášš balcony that we made use of after the sun went down and it cooled off a bit. They had a place to get breakfast that was so much fun. Caroline loved that room and all the cool people that ran it. We were served a lovely lunch each day. And we found good dinner companions each evening. They had runners that would get you from your table to your panel as efficiently as possible. Considering the throng of people there, it was no easy feat. And they made sure we had plenty of water. We felt the love and appreciated it.

Caroline did well in the drawing department. She was selling drawings for $1.00 if you bought one she already did and $2.00 if you wanted a custom drawing. She walked out with $27.00 in her pocket.

Thank you to everyone who bought books. We came in with 55 books and walked out with 6. Made packing that much easier and we didn’t have to ship anything home.

It was old home week for Babylon 5. The convention celebrated the 20th anniversary of the show. We had the main cast still living with Joe on stage all together for the first time since the wrap of the last episode. We got some spiffy seats to watch the show from. It was cathartic for both the people in the audience and the people onstage. We learned new stories, heard some classics, and cried a few tears for those we had lost.

We also got to talk to all our other friends and acquaintances not involved with B5 which was very nice. Peter introduced me to Yuri Lowenthal (Ben Tennison) who introduced us to his lovely wife Tara Platt (Temari). Wil Wheaton came by the table to tell Peter how much Peter’s book Writing Comics and Graphic Novels with Peter David had helped him. I got to chat with John Barrowman for a bit. I caught up with comic book folks I have known longer than I have known Peter and met some people that I have admired for years. So good people weekend for me.

And we had a lovely anniversary thank you very much.

I am grateful for each and every person who helped us at Phoenix Comic Con. Y’all rock.

  1. Daniel says:

How did the Bruce Banner panel go? I’m very curious what people had to say in his defense.

  2. Kathleen,

Thanks for the kind words. I’m glad we were able to have you join us this year and make it special for you.

As a side note, in the Writing in Someone Else’s Sandbox panel that Peter took part in, one of our YA author guests was in the audience and said she learned a lot from Peter and Tim Zahn.

  3. Stuart says:

Thank you for the kindness you showed us this weekend. Opal was talking about Caroline all yesterday and today at school she told all her friends about her new friend.

Daniel- The panel didn’t happen as advertised so it was just Peter talking about the Hulk for an hour which the audience was fine with.

Lee-Thank you for your hospitality. I like conventions where I don’t have to worry about anything.

Stuart- And Caroline told her friends about this cool kid she met named Opal. I am glad that the two of them found each other and had such a good time together.
