Groundhog Day 2011
Posted By Kathleen David on February 2, 2011
May the little bûggër not see his/her shadow today because I don’t want to think about a six week extension of winter weather.
Today is all about Ice, Ice, Baby. There is a coat of ice everywhere. On the cars, on the walks, on any exposed surface and it is deceptive too. The surface looks wet not slick but misstep and you will find yourself resting on your rump really fast.
In a really unusual move, Caroline’s school district went for a two hour delay to allow for some of the ice to be dealt with before the teachers and children arrive. She is currently sitting in front of me playing with her toys. She gets to wind up for school slowly today.
Kind of cuts in my day but I roll with the punches. Most of what I wanted to do today was indoor stuff. I can still finish the laundry. I can’t go to the gym until this afternoon but that’s OK.
I am grateful that the storm was not as severe as it could have been.
I thought that seeing his shadow was what meant six more weeks of winter — not seeing it meant an early-ish spring.
Of course, given the current weather, my big question is what happens if the groundhog was unable to get out of its hole b/c it was iced over. The entire place here is a skating rink, and not the fun kind.
Six snow days in 3.5 weeks — I don’t know about the students, but I am heartily sick of these “days off.” I’d like to get some actual TEACHING done!
Hope all went well with Caroline today.
