A Screaming Eagle Headache
Posted By Kathleen David on October 16, 2008
I have to admit I am glad that I haven’t had one of these in a while. I have had headaches of various forms from sinus pressure to head connecting with hard object. But I haven’t had what I call a screaming eagle in a while. Right now my head feels like an eagle is trying to pull my brains out with his talons from the front while the sound of its screams rings in my ears. I went to bed with a slight headache that was annoying but woke up with this beast. I have taken some asprin and hope that between that and some coffee in my system even if it doesn’t go totally away, it will at least reduce to a dull roar.
I do suffer from tinnitus, which seems to be worse than usual this morning to where I have to push past the ringing in my ears to concentrate on ambient sound like crickets, cats and birds. Once the headache subsides, I have a feeling sound will return back to its usual balance.
Until then I put myself on autopilot and write things down to remember them. I know this morning I have to pack Caroline’s lunch, get her dressed, check her homework, and get her off to the bus. The rest of the day will be dependant on how my brain pan feels. I do need to go to the store at some point for a few things but I am going to take it easy until I can think more clearly.
I am grateful that the headache is not worse than it is.
Since I’ve been on medicine for high blood pressure, I haven’t had any migraines. But when I did, it was a lost day, sometimes 2. Hang in there.
I too, take a minimal dose of a beta-blocker for blood pressure, with the added bonus it keeps my migraines more or less in control (I’ve had less than 1 in six months, and a friend of mine takes it for the same reason as well. In our family, migraines seem to be hereditary, as my father has them, and Allie’s had violent ones since she was quite young, five or six. While Allie gets sick, mine are just frustrating in that I can’t see for 20 minutes beforehand, and I get more PO’d over that than the headache.
PS – Make sure you drink PLENTY of fluids – I was told headaches can occur when you’re dehydrated, and sure enough, the only time I had one so bad I was flat out on the floor expecting to die was when I was dehydrated.
Kathleen, are you sure it’s just tinnitus? I don’t see anything about headaches on the page I’m looking at, but tinnitus is one of four symptom’s of Meniere’s disease. Fluid builds up in the ears, affects your balance, your hearing, and sometimes your eyes.

Smilin’ Al Shepard had Meniere’s. It’s what kept him off 13, not the “ear infection” they mention in the movie. They had to do surgery to correct his; I think it involved teflon tubes implanted in the ear canals. Whatever, it worked. He was assigned to 14, which is how we have him golfing on the Moon.
Anyway, unless you’re getting vertigo or falling over for no apparent good reason, you likely don’t have Meniere’s, but I worry about family. I’m a Virgo, it’s hardwired.
