RTBTCKI “I have seen Journey’s End” Edition

And I am asking for no spoilers in the comment section please. Let’s wait until SciFi shows it in about a month I think (4 episodes left to air on SciFi).
My non-spoiler gut feeling having watched it twice now is that I liked it. It was not perfect but considering all the stuff that was crammed into those last 3 episodes, it was not a bad conclusion to the season. I will remind people that RTD is not out the door yet. He is still the show running until 2010. Again lets avoid spoilers or harsh language. I know that these last couple of episodes have caused quite a bit of consternation within fandom and I know that my experience is not yours.
Caroline is much better. She showed me this morning that she could bend her little finger without too much trouble. The red areas are reducing slowly and I am working on keeping her from scratching at them. Bad reaction to bug bites which means I have to make use that when she goes out that she is protected.
It is just Caroline and me today as Peter is driving Ariel to bowling camp. This is Ariel’s first sleep away camp. I think she is going to have a blast.
Shoreleave is next weekend and, even thought I am not doing a costume, I have a lot to do. I have a table at the Art Show. I am not sure what is going to be on that table but something will appear. Might be the last appearance of redone 10 before he starts his journey across the pond to his new owner. I also need to figure out what I am doing for DragonCon. I am leaning towards a set of Torchwood hand puppets for the hand puppet set this year.
I do have a few things to do during Shoreleave. I am looking forward to them all and everyone I am going to see there. It will be nice to go. Caroline is looking forward to it too.
I am grateful that Caroline can bend her finger without crying.
Presumably you just happened to be in the UK over the weekend? 😛
Having also seen it, I’d go with ‘Magnificent’ as my one word review… There’s other stuff that could have gone in there, including a rebuttal speech by the Doctor at one point, but overall it was most satisfactory.
Have SciFi shown “Midnight” yet, and if so will you be reviewing or inviting comments?
Cheers.
It was a giant fanwankfest, but for the most part it turned out pretty good.
With the way things built up with “Turn Left”, and then the hype increased with “The Stolen Earth”, there was no way “Journey’s End” would live up to expectations. Yet, it wasn’t the kind of fall off like last year’s finale.
Peter-
4th of July pushed Midnight back to next week. So the US won’t get to Journey’s End until a month from now.
Kath
Ahh, your quaint local festivals… I’ll come back in a week for “Midnight” musings then. That’s a weird one.
Cheers.
Okay – i was a bit disappointed (because, indeed, after the lead-in, almost anything would have been somewhat disappointing), and the use of all the guest stars came across mostly as fanservice without a real compelling reason for them to be there.
That said, some of the twists were amusing, and at least one throwaway reference was nicely done.
*That* said, there is a well-known and popular juvenile fantasy series that used a similar gimmick at the end (rather more gratuitously), and i have sworn never to re-read it or to recommend it to others because of that last little twist. Its use here makes a little more sense – particularly in light of the realities of television production, but it’s still *very* annoying… (If i remember, i’ll try to drop back and expand on that after the episode runs here in the States.)
Looking forward to the Xmas special, though…
I saw it also… three times so far.
Still have some mixed feelings, though I do like that they took advantage of Catherine Tate’s ability to speak nearly at the speed of light. 🙂
