I’m a Bit of a Wreck Right Now

Posted By on April 18, 2008

When I was a kid one of my favorite book was called “Fortunately/Unfortunately” And that pretty much sums up what happened this afternoon.

I was in a car accident today.

Fortunately it was totally not my fault.

Unfortunately a Hummer ran a stop sign and crashed to the car I was driving.

Fortunately my seatbelt did its job and I am mostly unhurt.

Unfortunately the car is totaled.

Fortunately the car was a rental because ours was in the shop for a minor repair.

Unfortunately the amount of paper work we had to fill out was rather vast.

Fortunately Peter came back from NYCC to help me.

Unfortunately he didn’t make his signings or panels today.

Fortunately he will be there tomorrow as will the rest of us.

I am grateful that I am not hurt past a couple of bruises and a bit of a headache.

I am sorry to hear about your accident, and glad you are OK… was Caroline with you, too?

I think we’re ALL grateful that it wasn’t any worse, Kath. Sounds like you’re justifiably shaken up, but as one who’s been there, I’m very glad you’re okay!

oh man….i can only imagine how shook up you were..better to have you calmer and less stressed tomorrow than worrying about things and making the con today.
the Doctor Who on the big screen was nice…but i only got go to see 15 minutes of it.
Those XFiles folks kept going til nearly 8:30 so us Doctor Who folks got a bit of the shaft. (Gawd how i hate having to take the bus back to NJ and having to get up super early the next day to get another bus into the city! ) But as far as i know there wasn’t anything Who going on after the show.
Though there is a booth (can’t remember the name..sort of near the back) with some cool Who ‘stuff’. Sonic Screwdriver pen,5″ Doctors and aliens etc.
Hope to get to meet you this weekend!

So glad you’re okay!!! If we see you at the con today, I’ll give you as big a hug as you can handle with your aches and pains…

  5. Jeffrey S. Frawley says:

Feel better soon. I had thought that between the two of us I had the stiffer neck, but perhaps not.

  6. Bill Mulligan says:

Yikes! Glad you’re ok but it might be worth atrip to the doctor to make sure–a friend of mine started having back trouble a year after being hit by a car and for some reason they couldn’t prove it was the car accident that caused it. I’m not one of these folks who sees misfortune as an opportunity for an easy buck but if there is any soreness or pain it’s worth getting that down in official writing if, God forbid, it gets worse at a later date. It wasn’t your fault so there’s no reason you should have to pay for it.

Anyway, get some rest. Take care.

  7. Rob Hansen says:

Ouch. I’m glad you weren’t hurt. I got knocked off my bicycle last year by a motorist who sped away without stopping – not much fun hitting sidewalk when you’re over 50 – so I certainly appreciate the shock you feel in such situations.

And that’s good advice above from Bill Mulligan.

  8. Susan O says:

(*Hug!*) I hope you were driving a big car. Mike had his Volkswagen totalled by a driver going 65 in a 25 zone who for some unimaginable reason couldn’t hold the sharp curve. The kids and dog were okay, but he took a punch to the kidney from the armrest. Of course, the other driver’s mother knew the cop, so he walked away with a warning and we were out a car.

I wanted to be there this weekend, but I haven’t been home for 3 weekends in a row and something had to give. I’ll work it into my schedule next year.

    Stay Safe!

  9. David Hunt says:

    Yoiks!

Glad to here that all injuries were very minor. Be well, Ms. David.

Hi, Katherine… I’m so glad you’re O.K., too. But you were hit by a Hummer?! Hmmmm… Has Peter been holding out on us and the truth has come out that he married a real-live Super-Woman? If so, all I have to say to that is “Go, Pete!!” Take Care and All the Best!! See you at D*C!
