It had to be Me next

Posted By on December 15, 2007

Considering the fact that Peter, Ariel, and Caroline all had wicked bad colds in the last month and a half and I had magically avoided them, it did not surprise me to wake up with that stuffy head, teeth aching, throat hurting feeling. I managed to hold it off until after Caroline’s party but no more. Which I will take as a good thing because I can probably be over this by next weekend. But right now it feels like someone took a baseball bat to my face.

Caroline traced her name yesterday all the way through. I wrote it in block letters and she put another piece of paper on top of what I wrote and carefully traced it. She has been working with some books that my parents got her for her birthday. I am keeping that piece of paper to go with the lock of her baby hair that she cut when she was younger.

Hard to believe that we are about half way through the month already. Time is just flying. Now I just have to figure out which light went out in the light strand so my all holiday lights will light again. That and walk the property since we have a Nor’eastern heading our direction. It should be all rain according to the weather predictions. I managed to get our sidewalk and property ice-free yesterday with the help of a little rock salt so I wasn’t worried about the hard freeze last night. I just need to secure the garbage cans and some water bottles.

Off to take some sort of decongestant.

I am grateful that I was able to see my daughter write her name for the first time.

Keep an eye on this cold–there’s some adenovirus going around that can lead to severe respiratory problems. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/story/2007/12/10/ST2007121001653.html

Despite the scre headlines the worst thing that is likely to happen is that it last for weeks and gives you a bad cough–which is bad enough.

Stepdaughter Helen and Granddaughter Maggie were supposed to come up from the Macon area for a shower for Maggie’s soon-arriving (January) sister on Friday, but Fenita, Helen’s mother-in-law came home to find the oven on and other signs Helen had been there but had done a “Marie Celeste” with the baby…

Turns out that at 4:30 the pediatrician’s office had said “we can look at her if you’re here by five” and Helen had motored.

Turns out Maggie has strep throat.

Turns out no baby shower or visit this weekend.

The first time i had strep throat at about age twelve, when they could explain to me why i hurt so bad and why they couldn’t fix it Right Now, was bad enough. I hate to think what it must be like for not-quite-two Maggie…

For you it will be rain, for us the storm will be snow turning to sleet and ice. This is after all the snow on Thursday. Marina had strep last week, and this week I was driving through the storm to get Allie to the pediatrician w/ a 103 fever from her case of strep. I bathed the house in Lysol, and hopefully no one else will get it for Christmas.

Airborne, Kathleen… take it if someone around you has a cold or if you even think you may be getting one… I swear by it – it has kept me healthy when all but 3 of our teaching staff of 15 were sick for two weeks… and last month, when 13 out of 24 students were sneezing, dripping and blowing non-stop, I never caught a bug at all.
