Calling London

Posted By on July 1, 2007

My sympathies to my readers in the UK. This weekend has been a rough one for y’all so far. It could have been worse but thanks to vigilant people it was not. I know the area that they found the bombs in. I use to walk through it to get to other parts of the city when I was over there. I think someone should get the individual who cause the call to the paramedics a big bunch of flowers.

I have not seen the last episode of the season but the rumblings are interesting from what I can read without spoilers. I have re-watched “Sound of the Drums” and “Utopia” a number of times now especially the last 10 minutes of each.

We have been watching our way through the new Robin Hood series and so far it has been really good. Peter did get to tell Paul Cornell that we thought one of the jokes in an episode that Paul wrote took a while to get to but it did have a pretty good pay-off if you know American Rock Music. The interview with Peter and Paul will be airing July 9th and 14th on Resonance FM as part of “Panel Boarders” at 4:45. There is a website www.panelboards.com with more information.

Costuming is moving along. Peter, bless his heart, took the girls out yesterday so I had some time without interruption and I got quite a bit done. Last night I started on the hand sewing and stray thread removal portion of the program. Today I start on the next piece of the costume. Wish me luck cause I am gonna need it.

I am grateful that the bombs were found before they could really hurt anyone.

Most Londoners are pretty blase about that sort of thing after 30+ years. No actual explosion so no sweat. More people I know have been moaning about the atrocious weather, frankly.

The season 3 finale for Doctor Who wasn’t as good as half-dozen episodes that preceeded it, but having watched it twice now I don’t think it’s anywhere near as terrible as some have been claiming.

The season finale of Who was, imo, complete rubbish. Easily the worst of the season, and only slightly below Love & Monsters and Fear Her in the race for the top of the new Who crap heap.

Hopefully, Kathleen, you guys enjoy it more than I did.

Actually, there was little if any risk from the fearson car “bombs” in Piccadilly – it’s possible that they might have esulted in a fairly spectacular fireball, blown out the windows and sent semi-detachable bits of the cars – like mirrors – flying around, but there would not have been either a Huge Blast nor would the nails have been any danger.

And the cars’ gas tanks wouldn’t have exploded, either – contrary to Hollywood’s portrayal and popular myth, cars do *not* explode, except, possibly, under circumstances so unlikely that, by their very nature, would preclude the chance of anyone actually being harmed by the blast.
