Ariel is Happy

The School Budget passed! Ariel is very relieved since that means that the bowling team will exist next year. And this was not by a small margin that it won. So much happiness by parents in the school district knowing that we are not on an austerity budget for another year. Most of the districts that were on austerity last year voted for a budget this years. Ariel is also taking her first non-language Regents Exam today. Once she finished that she is done for the year and her summer starts.
Caroline has a little friend who is 7 months younger than her who lives across the street. The two of them have always gotten a long but recently they have really become friends. Caroline went over there for a play-date yesterday where the two of them played and screeched in a kiddy pool having a blast squirting each other and Ariel with water. Caroline wanted to eat dinner quickly and go back over but I had to tell her that they were done for the day. I think we may be making a trip down to a local park together today so the girls can play together there.
I haven’t gotten done half of what I wanted to get done this week but now I finally feel like doing something for the first time in ages. So we’ll see how far I get done with this doll I am working on. Then it is onto a set of Monsters for Shoreleave.
I am grateful that the school budget passed.
Okay, don’t get mad, but I AM a conservative. I also happen to have a friend who works in New York as a teacher. All she ever does is complain about the things they don’t have in the classrooms that they need.
So I have to ask. WHY are they wasting money on a bowling team? Not saying that a bowling team shouldn’t exist, but why can’t it be a community bowling team, like little league, with each team having sponsors, that furnish uniforms, etc.?
Some kids can’t even find their own state on a map. I used to have to name all fifty states. They can’t name the capitol of their own home state. We had to name all fifty. I also had to learn Invictus, The Gettysburg Address and the Preamble to the Constitution, while to today’s kid’s Lincoln is that guy on the penny or the five dollar bill. And there was no Internet to log onto. I actually had to go to the library and check out a BOOK and READ it.
I wasn’t even a GOOD student, but geez, by today’s standard I’d be a freaking valedictorian, assuming they didn’t get rid of it so no one else would feel bad!
So, okay, Ariel’s happy about the bowling team, and I’m happy for her, but frankly, I’d rather see the money spent on the bowling team put to better use. After all, there’re alternatives to the bowling team. It seems most liberals don’t want an alternative to public schools.
See, Kath? I DO read your blog.
