Farpoint 2006 (The Arrival)

Posted By on February 18, 2006

Why does it seems that everything takes 2 times longer than time budgeted for it? I wanted to get us out the door by Noon and we didn’t get everyone in the car until 1:20. Part of it was missing things and things that went missing and the search that ensued for the things which ate up a good chunk of the time. But after a prolonged game of car Tetris, I managed to get everything we had to have in the car. The drive was fine until we hit New Jersey and exit 8 where the car and bus lanes merge. From that point on it was a horror show. We would finally get back to a good rate of speed only to find ourselves stopped by the next traffic nightmare.

We got to the hotel and couldn’t find a bellman. Ariel and I went to have dinner and Peter took Caroline duty. Ariel ran into a bunch of her friends and went to the pool while I finished getting all the costumes inside. I then went out and caught up with a number of old friends and made a few new ones.

One thing I really like about this convention is that on occasion it can be like the bar in Cheers. Everyone knows your name. I know just about everyone’s name who runs the convention so getting around and finding people is easy. It is like a weird family reunion every February which is a great party.

So today is getting ready for this evening. I have two entries this year in the Masquerade. We’ll see how it goes and if I am shooting myself in the foot.

I am grateful that I have made it here and have a moment to myself.

I know it is a little early in the summer convention schedule, but does Peter know yet the closest he will be coming to Milwaukee, WI in the months to come?
