I had a Marvelous Time

Posted By on December 17, 2005

The Marvel party was loud but nice. I finally met a number of people I have been talking to on the phone for a number of years so I have a face to go with the voice. Caught up with a few people I hadn’t seen in a while to find out there will be 2 weddings and about 4 kids coming into being next year. Nice chitchat and good company. Getting in and out of the city was not bad but the streets themselves were a horror show. It took us 40 minutes to get from one side of Manhattan to the other. Makes me shutter as to how it is going to be if the transit strike happens. They moved the deadline to Tuesday. I guess striking over the weekend wouldn’t make enough an impact so they are going for the middle of the week right before a major holiday.

Caroline has been up since 5:15 this morning. She had a bad dream and needed comfort. Peter, bless his soul, took point with this and came downstairs with her letting me sleep until 8:30 where we switched off so he could get some sleep. I am trying to get her to settle down since she is showing all the signs of being really tired and in need of a nap.

In life imitating art, John Spencer who played Leo McGarry on the West Wing died of a heart attack Friday. He said that the character of Leo mirrored him in many ways both were recovering alcoholics and both were very driven people. According to the people who knew him he was a great guy and a consummate professional. Rest in Peace John.

I am grateful that we went to the party.

Yesterday was surreal for me in many ways…. only one of which was that I had just finished a dvd marathon over the past 2 weeks. I finished the last episode of West Wing Season 2 in the morning and had come to appreciate and grow fond of Leo. Last night, watching the evening news, I saw a story about his death. For whatever reason, I am now even more curious to see the next few seasons on dvd.

I’m just grateful to read that you’re feeling better. We’ve had our share of respiratory ick around here, but for the moment everyone’s healthy. I hope it stays the same in Casa David!
