On the Occasion of Her Third Birthday

Posted By on December 5, 2005

I really don’t know if Caroline is every going to read this or even want to. If she does she will probably get some answers to questions she had about her early childhood and more information about what the weather was like when she was younger than she will ever need.

About the weather, they are predicting snow and possibly a lot of it. Not that unusual, it snowed the day she was born and on her 1st birthday. It snowed the day after her second birthday and it is suppose to snow today. She is my snow baby. It did snow yesterday but quickly turned to a light rain so most of the white stuff melted quickly especially on the sidewalks, streets, and driveways. There is still a dusting on the grass to remind us of what may come.

Today we plan on taking her to see Chicken Little which I am sure she will enjoy. Other than that we have cake and presents for her today. If I ask her how old she is, she will reply three now.

She is getting so tall. She doesn’t need to be carried to the car anymore. She walks to it and climbs in. She still wants to be carried to bed at night. She gives great hugs and kisses. She is very independent in some ways and still very dependent in others. You can negotiate with her on some things. Like take a bath without a fight and you can pick out what clothes you want to wear. She is better about letting me brush her hair and fix it up so she looks pretty. I can’t say that I was the best at that either when I was her age. She loves to brush her teeth and wants to do so after every meal. She likes playing with her bears and is starting to get into dolls. She served Peter and me “tea” from her teacart last night along with invisible cookies. She loves to fall asleep in her father’s lap. She has a good imagination and drawing skills. She recognizes how others are feeling. If she sees a kid crying she wants to go give them a hug and make them feel better. She insists on kissing Mommy’s boo-boos. She has a kind and loving heart. She is a large part of my world and I am happy to have her in it. I love her so much that sometime it almost hurts. She loves me unconditionally with every fiber of her little being. Now she is three and it seems just the other day I held her in my arms for the first time and said to her, “Welcome to the World my baby girl.”

I am, have been, and will be grateful for Caroline every day of my life.

That was so sweet. My oldest daughter is about to turn 16 (!) (Ack!) but I still remember her as that little red haired angel she was on the day we got her.

I envy you. If I tried to pick up Amanda now and take her to bed I’d probably snap my spine like a breadstick. I’m at that awful stage where I’d desperately love to have another little baby around to spoil but I don’t quite want my kids to be having children for quite a few more years to come. It’s nice to hear about Caroline from you.
