The Disaster in the Indian Ocean
Posted By Kathleen David on December 27, 2004
The death toll from Sunday’s tsunamis climbed to 21,000 by Monday as fears of disease from decaying bodies and contaminated water grew in Indonesia, India, Sri Lanka and Thailand.
I ask everyone to think good thoughts, pray, send energy or whatever you do to give some recognition to these people. They have had their lives turned into rubble and that is only the beginning.
The devastation they’ve experienced is incredible. It’s unthinkable the lives that were lost. I don’t have the words to write the despair this has caused. My heart and thoughts go out to the victims and their families.
I’ve been teaching earth science for a few years now and it’s been difficult to convey the power and destructive potential of the tsunami. It won’t be so difficult now. My prayers to the people of the Asia.
Two friends of my family were out there and are currently listed as missing. I pray that they will be found safe and well, and my heart breaks for the many thousands who didn’t survive.
