Echoing my comments on Peter’s post – Happy Birthday KathO!

So, what kind of food can you get in Atlanta, but not anywhere else?

Happy Birthday! And good luck with those Terrible Twos. Just keep reminding yourself that it will eventually pass. Sort of like a kidney stone…

    Joe-
There is Fat Matt’s Rib Shack with Fat Matt’s Chicken Shack right next to it on Piedmont. There is Ru San Sushi Place which has some of the most interesting combinations including one called a Dr. Zhivago which has smoked salmon and russian caviar. Everybody which has really good pizza. The better pizza place which was called Jagger’s doesn’t really exist any more. There is Moe’s Burritos (which may be a national chain). For chain food which we don’t have in our part of New York there is Chick-Fila, Steak and Shake, and Waffle House. So I have quite a bit to choose from.

Fat Matt’s is awesome. My wife introduced me to them when we were dating. Just a cool, cool place, and the food’s great, too. Haven’t been there in far too long.

Moe’s is great, too. I have one of those right near work that just opened about a year ago or so. There’s a new chain that has just moved down here that seems to be running some of the Mexican restaurants out of business called Chipolte. I think it’s similar to Moe’s. We’ve lost one Mexican place that we went to regularly to Chipolte, so I’m boycotting them.

I’m not sure if Moe’s is a national chain, but I’m pretty sure Chic-fil-a, Steak and Shake, and Waffle House are as I remember those from growing up in the midwest. They weren’t as common there as they are here, though. I will sometimes give directions using the Waffle Houses. “Okay, go past the third Waffle House and take a left.” I think I’d probably miss Steak and Shake the most of those three. Those new side-by-side shakes rock!

Whoops! Meant to put this at the beginning of that last post.

    Happy Birthday!!

You know, I’ve never said this to anyone before, but you may need to consider getting a Windoze machine. Or you need a new Mac. Okay, forget the first part, just get a new Mac.

Happy Birthday again, and send someone out to get you some decent Krispy Kremes.

Cool. Thanks for the info. We have all of those chains here (Memphis), so I’m familiar (yum), but I’ll look for Fat Matt’s and Everybody when I am in Atlanta again. Sound like my kinds of places.

There are many Chick-fil-a’s in New Jersey if you are ever down that way including Woodbridge Mall, Menlo Park Mall, Monmouth Park Mall.

Happy birthday! And glad to see the list of food you can only get in Hotlanta (or at least there and not LI) didn’t include the Varsity. 🙂

Sorry to hear Jagger’s is gone/changed though. Ate there back around 80/81 when competing in a Quiz Bowl tournament at Emory and the UNC-CH team ended up there for dinner. We were amazed at just how great the Sicilian pies were, to the point where the memory’s stuck with me for this long.

And I may be the only person to have been born and raised in North Carolina for 20 years to have never eaten in a Waffle House. 🙂

  15. Happy Birthday, Kathleen – from another September Kathleen!
